Harlem Rocket to Collaborate with Raymarine
The Harlem Rocket, a new high-speed boat tour on the Hudson River along the famed Harlem and Upper Manhattan waterfront set to launch in the Spring of 2023, announced a sponsorship and collaboration with Raymarine. The Harlem Rocket, to be launched from the West Harlem Piers, will feature guidance systems produced by Raymarine.“We are so happy to add Raymarine to our growing list of founding supporters and collaborators for the Harlem Rocket, the first phase of the Harlem Gateway Waterfront Initiative,” says Garry A, Johnson, founder and CEO of Paradise Express Ferry and HarlemRocket LLC.
New L.A. Harbor Commissioners Hold First Meeting
The newly assembled Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners held its first meeting, with four of the five-member panel newly appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Three of the commissioners are Harbor Area residents. The Harbor Commission is expected to elect its president and vice-president at the next Board meeting on December 12 th. “Spurring investment and creating job opportunities at our nation’s No. 1 Port is critical to Los Angeles and the entire country,” said Mayor Garcetti.
Newest MSC T-AKE-class Ship Christened
USNS Medgar Evers, the newest ship in the U.S. Navy's Lewis and Clark-class of dry cargo/ammunition ships operated by Military Sealift Command, was christened Nov. 12 during a morning ceremony at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego. With the traditional words, "I christen you USNS Medgar Evers," Myrlie Evers-Williams, the widow of the ship's namesake, broke the traditional bottle of champagne against the bow of the ship. Evers was launched Oct. 29 and is scheduled for delivery to MSC in spring 2012.
NASSCO Christens USNS Medgar Evers
General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), on Saturday christened the U.S. Navy's newest supply ship, USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13). Named in honor of the African American civil rights leader from Mississippi, the USNS Medgar Evers is the 13th ship of a class of 14 dry cargo/ammunition ships designed and built by NASSCO. More than 1,000 people attended the Saturday morning christening ceremony for the USNS Medgar Evers at NASSCO's San Diego shipyard. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus was the ceremony's principal speaker.
USNS Medgar Evers to be Christened at NASSCO
The widow of the late civil rights leader Medgar Evers will christen the U.S. Navy's newest resupply ship, the USNS Medgar Evers , during a ceremony in San Diego this Saturday at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard. Myrlie Evers-Williams, former chairman of the NAACP and the widow of Medgar Evers, will name the ship by breaking a bottle of champagne against its hull during a traditional christening ceremony. Medgar Evers was an African American civil rights pioneer and World War II veteran.
Admiral Kramek Named President-Elect of SNAME
The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) named Robert E. Kramek president elect of the organization at its recent Annual Maritime Technology Conference & Expo in Houston, Texas. Kramek, President and Chief Operating Officer of ABS will commence his term January 1, 2007, succeeding current SNAME President Dr. Roger H. Compton. Admiral Kramek is a former Commandant of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from which he retired as a Four Star Admiral. Admiral Robert E. Kramek graduated with honors from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Academy with a B.S. in engineering in 1961 and attended postgraduate schools at the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Alaska.
