Europe's Biggest Gas Supplier Says All Clear from Offshore Pipeline Security Checks
Inspections of Norway's offshore gas pipelines after the Nord Stream blasts found nothing suspicious, an executive at energy major Equinor told Reuters, in the first official word on the security sweep.However, risks remain after last year's still-unexplained explosions at the Nord Stream pipelines built to carry Russian gas to Germany via the Baltic Sea, warned Jannicke Nilsson, who manages security for Equinor.Europe's largest gas supplier after a drop in Russian flows last year, Equinor also acts as technical service provider for offshore pipelines operator Gassco.
First Attempts To Rescue Russian Sailors Fail
Rescuers mounted a desperate undersea mission on Tuesday to evacuate 116 sailors trapped in a stricken nuclear submarine on the sea floor before the oxygen ran out. Reuters reports said a first attempt to dock a rescue capsule to the sunken submarine had failed due to heavy storms and a second had been launched. Dwindling oxygen supplies on the vessel were pushing rescuers to speed up their efforts. The crew of the Kursk, one of Russia's most modern submarines, have been able to communicate with the outside world only by tapping on the hull since an accident at the weekend forced them to shut down the reactor and let the craft sink to the bottom. But a Navy spokesman said the tapping was growing fainter. "The signal is getting weaker.
Trident Warrior ’07 Brings New Technology to the Fleet
Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM) is hosting Trident Warrior 2007, the annual FORCEnet sea trial event, from March 16 through March 30, to improve communication and speed vital information to warfighters. During the exercise, U.S. naval forces are teaming with DoD and civilian agencies to test new technologies that will improve communication and situational awareness across a multinational experiment. Military units from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and France are also taking part in Trident Warrior. Some participants are actually attending the exercise here while others are linked virtually, using the various technologies being tested in a network-centric environment.
OSI Continues to Receive New Orders For First Quarter
Offshore Systems International Ltd. (OSI) announced that it continures to receive new orders in its fiscal first quarter which ends February 28, 2001. Since announcing a major new order in December, Offshore has received $1.1 million in additional new orders bringing the total new business booked to date in the fiscal first quarter to $1.7 million. The new orders are from three of Offshore Systems’ key customers – the Royal Danish Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy, and are for products to be delivered later in 2002. The orders are for Offshore’s proprietary ECPINS®-M (Electronic Chart Precise Integrated Navigation System-Military) systems, and for electronic charts and chart services.
