Injured Crewman Medevaced from Disabled Maersk Containership

The U.S. Coast Guard said it medevaced a Maersk containership crewmember injured by an engine room blast that disabled the vessel off the U.S. East Coast.The Coast Guard said watchstanders at its Fifth District command center received a report on Thursday evening that an explosion occurred in the engine room of the Danish-flagged cargo ship Laura Maersk, which burned a crewmember and disabled the vessel.Aircrews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C.

Tanker Crewman Medevaced Off Virginia

A tanker crew member was medevaced approximately 400 miles off the coast of Virginia, Friday evening.Watchstanders at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Fifth District command center were notified by a crewmember on the Marshall Islands flagged ship Arctic Flounder that a chief officer aboard had shown symptoms of a possible stroke.Aircrews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. launched to assist.Due to the extensive distance, the Coast Guard Fifth District coordinated with U.S.

Box Ship Crewman Medevaced off Virginia

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a crew member from a containership 48 miles northeast of Virginia Beach, Va., Monday night.Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Virginia command center received a report from the captain of the motor vessel Zim Shekou that a member of the ship's crew was was experiencing symptoms of a potential heart attack.

Two Injured in Lifeboat Mishap

A Coast Guard aircrew flew two men to the hospital after they were injured falling overboard with a lifeboat from a tanker 70 miles east of Chincoteague, Wednesday.The two engineers were reportedly working on an enclosed lifeboat when it released and they both went over with it. The crew of the tanker, Chemtrans Nova, contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watch standers to request assistance.The Coast Guard Cutter Reliance, a 210-foot ship, was on patrol about 20 miles away and diverted to help. Their small boat crew arrived and recovered one person off the lifeboat and the other in the water. Their injuries included a stomach laceration and broken leg.A U.S.

Mishap Aboard Ike Injures Sailors

Eight Sailors aboard the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) were injured  when an arresting gear parted during a routine landing by an E-2C Hawkeye aircraft. There were no fatalities and the Sailors are listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The injured Sailors were working on the flight deck at the time of the mishap. Six have been transported to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital for treatment. Two remain aboard IKE. The names of the injured personnel will not be released. Their families are being (have been) notified. The aircraft regained flight and returned safely to its base at Norfolk Naval Station Chambers Field. Initial reports are the aircraft was not damaged and no aircrew members were injured.

Coast Guard Airlifts Queen Mary II Crewman

A man was airlifted by the Coast Guard off the cruise ship Queen Mary II 125 nautical miles southeast of the North Carolina’s Outer Banks after the onboard physician diagnosed the man with internal bleeding. Jason Parra, 36, was hoisted off the Queen Mary II by a rescue-helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and was accompanied by a rescue airplane from Air Station Elizabeth City. Para was taken to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., and is listed in stable condition. At the time, the Queen Mary II was on its way to New York City.
