US Awards $4.85 Mln for Waterways Projects

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced $4.85 million in grants to six Marine Highway projects along the waterways of 17 states and the District of Columbia. The goal of the Maritime Administration’s Marine Highway Program is to expand the use of U.S. navigable waterways to relieve landside congestion, reduce air emissions and generate other public benefits by increasing the efficiency of the surface transportation system. “These grants will help us take advantage of the economic and environmental benefits of one of America’s most crucial transportation assets – our coastal and inland waterways,” Foxx said. ExxonMobil Employees Donate $2.4 mi

ExxonMobil and its employees and retirees in Northern Virginia raised more than $2.4 million for charitable organizations and local charities in the Northern Virginia area during the 2014 Employees’ Favorite Charities campaign. Employees and retirees contributed to nearly 600 charities that provide a wide range of local health and human services to residents in Fairfax, Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. capital region. “ExxonMobil has a long history of supporting community groups and educational organizations in Northern Virginia through financial contributions and thousands of hours volunteered by employees and retirees,” said Alan Kelly, president, ExxonMobil Fuels, Lubricants & Specialties Marketing Company.

Secretary Foxx Designates Two New Marine Highways. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has designated two new Marine Highways. The Occoquan, Potomac, and Anacostia Rivers make up the “M-495 Marine Highway Crossing,” and is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and This marine highway connects ports in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Maryland for passenger services. The upper Missouri River is designated as the “M-29 Marine Highway Connector,” and is sponsored by the Port Authority of Kansas City, Missouri.

ISS - Rudolph Appointed VP/COO

Inchcape Shipping Services has appointed Noah Rudolph as Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Government Services, effective 10 November, 2008. A graduate of Princeton University, Rudolph holds an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School. Rudolph has held several positions in the US Government including service in the United States Marine Corps and the Department of Justice. Rudolph will serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the ISS Government Services business stream.

Maritime Industry Mourns Congressman Bateman

Virginia Republican Rep. Herbert Bateman, 72, a nine-term congressman and strong military supporter who planned to retire at the end the year, died in his sleep on Monday, September 11, according to a spokesman. Bateman, first elected in 1982, had dominated his heavily Republican district in the Tidewater region of Virginia. He used his seat on the House Armed Services Committee to support the military and the area's heavy concentration of defense contractors while building a moderate voting record. The congressman was noted for his steadfast knowledge and experience in dealing with the various challenges that are constantly faced by the U.S. shipbuilding industry today.

FDGM Awarded U.S. Navy DVD Contract For Mine Warfare Fleet

FDGM, the Northern Virginia subsidiary of Italian engine manufacturer Isotta Fraschini, has been awarded a U.S. Department of Defense contract to supply spare parts items for the non-magnetic diesel engines in the U.S. Navy mine sweeper fleet. Managed by Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio, the contract also includes spare parts items for Defense Logistics Agencies in Richmond and Philadelphia, as well as the Navy Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) in Mechanicsburg, PA. The FDGM contract also includes spare parts items coded for stock replenishment for the mine sweeper fleet. This contract is part of the implementation of a new government transportation management system currently expected in place on or about July 1, 2003.
