International Shipholding Returns to New Orleans
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and International Shipholding Corp. President Erik L. Johnsen announced the company will relocate its corporate headquarters from Mobile, Ala., to New Orleans, where the business was founded in 1947. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ISH, the company owns and operates a global fleet of waterborne cargo vessels. ISH recorded annual revenue of more than $310 million in its just concluded 2013 fiscal year. After Hurricane Katrina, recovery challenges led the company to relocate its corporate headquarters to Mobile.
2013 DOT Year in Review: Saint Lawrence Seaway
On the Saint Lawrence Seaway, the binational waterway we operate in partnership with Canada, the end of the calendar year also means the end of the navigation season. And 2013 was another busy year on the Seaway. In fact, activity at our Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation in Massena, NY, never slows down, even after the locks are closed. Because when the navigation season ends, the repair, maintenance, and upgrade work begins. And 2013 was no different as we continued our Asset Renewal Program.
OceanSaver to Open South Korea Office
Ballast water treatment (BWT) system specialist OceanSaver has taken the strategic decision to establish a base in the world’s number one shipbuilding centre, South Korea. The Norwegian company has expanded rapidly since opening its doors in Drammen, near Oslo, in 2003, forging a strong reputation for its reliable, robust and technically advanced systems in the dynamic BWT market. Asia has recently emerged as a key growth driver for the company, with the team opening its first office on the continent in Shanghai, China, in 2011.
New Office for Water Weights
Water Weights, Inc. recently opened its newest office in Fife, Wash. The new office will service the company's customers in the Pacific Northwest Region of the U.S. and Western Canada. The opening expands the company's North American operations to five divisions. Water Weights now has local services in California, Illinois, Georigia, Louisiana and Washington. The company has also developed an improved lifeboat testing system to help operators conform with the new Amendments to Chapter III of SOLAS regulations. In addition to SOLAS, the USCG requires weight testing of the lifeboats during each inspection for certification and whenever the falls are turned end-for-end or renewed. The new system allows for remote application and removal of the load, thereby improving safety.
