Earlier this year GEA won the first contract for equipping cruise liners with its UV ballast water treatment system, BallastMaster marineX, powered by Trojan Marinex. The contract is to equip two new vessels with one BallastMaster marineX each, as well as an option for equipping a third. The IMO-certified system, with a throughput capacity of 500 cu. m./hr., features two-phase operation with mechanical pre-filtration and subsequent disinfection of the ballast water by UV treatment.

Vankorneft, a subsidiary of Rosneft, in compliance with the program of Suzun field development started construction of pressure oil pipeline to connect Suzun and Vankor oil fields. Total length of the oil pipeline will be 101 km. The project implementation became possible due to a complex of technical and managerial arrangements. For instance, over 1600 two-pipe sections were welded, and the process of pile foundations installation started. Contracting building organizations are involved in construction right-of-way centerline, providing assembling works to start on time. In the winter period 2014-2015 a considerable workscope is planned to drive piles along the oil pipeline axis, as well as to place, assemble and weld its linear part.

Iraq's rush to pump more oil to Asia has coincided with complaints from some buyers about the quality of its crude, casting doubt on whether Baghdad can increase the volumes of its key Basra Light grade to the region by a third in 2014. The Gulf producer has managed to smooth out kinks in its supply chain that curbed Basra Light exports from southern oil terminals last year. The higher output has helped cap oil prices pushed up by recent geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions in Libya, Iraq's own north and elsewhere.

"With the acquisition of Separation Specialists, we are able to offer a complete produced water de-oiling solution from one vendor. There is also an excellent cultural fit between the two entities, which we look forward to further developing," says David Merle, head of Aker Solutions' process systems business. Aker Solutions will immediately be able to offer Separation Specialists' products, such as nutshell filters (NSF), mechanical induced gas flotation (IGF) and field services, through its global distribution and execution network.

Global marine supplier Alfa Laval now offers a set of sustainable solutions designed to help ship owners and operators comply with current and pending environmental regulations. Thousands of protesters from western France marched through Paris on April 1 to demand tighter shipping laws in the wake of the Erika oil tanker spill which devastated parts of their region. The march was called by action groups from western France along with local politicians and environmentalists. Police estimated 2,000 people attended. TotalFina, which chartered the Erika, was targeted by protesters in two separate incidents before the march. On the day of the protest, activists dumped sand and oil in front of what they believed was the home of TotalFina boss, Thierry Desmarest. According to police, they left the scene upon realizing that they had the wrong address.

Enviro Voraxial Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: EVTN) announced on March 5 that the company has received an order from Twin Filter, a marketing partner of EVTN and a global provider of filtration equipment and services. The purchase order calls for the delivery of a Voraxial(R) Separator to the marine environmental subsidiary of a large oil company. The Voraxial Separator will be configured to perform simultaneous bulk separation of oil, water and sand from large volumes of contaminated water collected from various maritime sources, including ships.
