Galveston, Texas based dredging and marine construction contractor Callan Marine said it has named Joey Maldonado as Vice President of Construction Estimating.A 25-year veteran of the construction and maritime industry, Maldonado has worked for Kingsley Constructors, Keystone Contractors, Orion Marine Group, and Russell Marine, serving as both a Project Estimator and Design Engineer. NTSB Issues 10 Safety Recommendations Following Dredging Pipeline Strike

The National Transportation Safety Board issued 10 safety recommendations Tuesday during a public board meeting held to determine the probable cause of the fatal August 21, 2020, hazardous liquid pipeline strike and subsequent explosion and fire aboard the dredging vessel Waymon Boyd.The Waymon Boyd struck a submerged 16-inch hazardous liquid pipeline carrying propane during dredging operations in Corpus Christi, Texas. A geyser of propane gas and water erupted adjacent to the vessel. Shortly thereafter, propane gas engulfed the dredge and an explosion occurred.

Dredge Worker Sues for Injuries Suffered in Corpus Christi Explosion

A lawsuit has been filed in Nueces County, Texas on behalf of a worker who was injured and burned in an explosion and fire that occurred while he was working on the dredge Waymon L. Boyd in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel last month.The dredge worker, Jose Cantu, is among six crew members who were hospitalized after the dredge struck a gas pipeline, causing the vessel to catch fire and sink. Four Missing, Six Injured After Dredge Strikes a Pipeline in Corpus Christi

Four people are missing and six have been hospitalized for injuries caused by a pipeline explosion in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel on Friday, officials said.The explosion and subsequent fire were reported at about 8 a.m. local time near Nueces Bay in the northern part of the city after a dredge struck a pipeline in the water. West Calcasieu Port to Undergo Waterfront Upgrade

West Calcasieu Port officials have awarded a $1.6 million construction contract to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. for the replacement of bulkheading along the port’s waterfront on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. “The West Cal Port Board of Commissioners was impressed with the strong interest and participation in the highly competitive bidding process on the part of the marine construction industry,” said West Calcasieu Port Director Lynn Hohensee. The bids were formally opened during a special port board meeting earlier in March. “Incorporated in the construction project plan is the replacement of aged, deteriorated bulkhead with new steel bulkhead,” Hohensee explained.

Orion Announces $9 Million Contract

Orion Marine Group, Inc., a heavy civil marine contractor serving the infrastructure sector, announced a contract award of approximately $9 million. Orion Marine Group was recently awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge approximately two million cubic yards of material on a portion of the Houston Ship Channel. Dredging will commence in the third quarter and last approximately seven months.

Orion to Build Caribbean Dock Facility

Orion Marine Group, Inc., a heavy civil marine contractor serving the infrastructure sector, announced a contract award of approximately $38 million.  to design, build and dredge a new dock facility for a private customer in the Caribbean. The initial design phase of the project will commence immediately, while onsite construction will begin in the third quarter of this year and last approximately 18 months.

Orion Marine Group, Inc. provides a broad range of marine construction and specialty services on, over and under the water along the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic Seaboard, the West Coast, Canada, and the Caribbean Basin and acts as a single source turn-key solution for its customers' marine contracting needs. While the Company is pleased with the recovery of backlog from the lows reached in 2011 and with recent legislative activity in Washington, dredge utilization remains below historical norms as Corps lettings continue to be choppy. As a result, margin improvement is unlikely in the foreseeable future. The Company has still not seen a material increase in lettings from the Army Corps of Engineers since the beginning of 2012.

Orion Announces $20 Million Contract Award

Orion Marine Group, Inc. (NYSE:ORN), a marine contractor serving the infrastructure sector, announced  May 15, 2012 a contract award of approximately $20 million. Orion Marine Group was recently awarded a contract for the demolition and rehabilitation of an existing wharf structure on the Lower Mississippi River for a private customer. Onsite construction of the project is expected to commence in the second quarter and last approximately 12 months.
