Partners Digitize Spare Parts Management

Finnlines, Alfa Laval Ink Scrubber Performance Deal

Finnish shipping operator Finnlines, part of the Grimaldi Group, has placed a service order with Alfa Laval to optimize the performance of its existing Alfa Laval PureSOx scrubber systems. The performance agreement was tailored for Finnlines using the Alfa Laval 360° Service Portfolio, a structured selection of defined service offerings. The Alfa Laval performance agreement with Finnlines covers PureSOx systems installed on board seven RoRo vessels: Finnpulp, Finnmill, Finnhawk, Finnkraft, Finncarrier, Finnmaster and Finnmerchant.

Euroship Installs Software on New Bulk Carrier Vessels

U.K.-based Marine Software Ltd. have delivered Marine Planned Maintenance, Marine Storekeeper and Marine Purchasing software packages to Ship Managers Euroship Services for their new build handysize Bulk Carrier vessels, Lowlands Saguenay and Lowlands Boreas (35,000 DWT). Constructed at the Zhejiang East Coast Shipbuilding yard, these Cobelfret owned vessels will also be equipped with Marine Software's integrated barcode package to assist with on-board spare parts management.

AMSEC Employee Honored for Safety Idea

Huntington Ingalls Industries' AMSEC subsidiary employee, Casey Tarnowski, wins annual safety suggestion award. The annual Safety Suggestion Award contest is hosted by the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA). Casey Tarnowski was honored for his stanchion stabilizer, which prevents stanchions from rolling off flight decks and preventing them from being dropped through flight deck stanchion holes on aircraft carriers. He received the award and a $500 cash prize from Brian Applewhite, VSRA's safety committee chair, at the VSRA's recent general membership meeting.

Fugro Brazil, Scaldis and Holland Offshore Join MirTac and Star

Recently, MirTac added three offshore contractors to its Star user group: the Fugro Marine Services BV business unit in Brazil, Scaldis Antwerp and Holland Offshore. The Star fleet management software is used worldwide on rigs, subsea solutions, ships and maritime offices linking locations seamlessly. Fugro Marine Services BV, already a MirTac customer for years, chose to also implement Star in her new office in Brazil and on the new-build Survey Vessel Fugro Brasilis. Fugro Marine Services primarily uses Star for maintenance and safety management, documentation, purchasing and spare parts management. Implementation for the Brazilian office and Fugro Brasilis has already started according to Maarten van Slobbe, Manager CMS at Fugro Marine Services B.V.

Scania Extends High Speed Engine Range

New High-Speed SCANIA Marine Engine Range with Outputs from 294 to 735 kW (400 to 1.000 HP). SCANIA is a tradition rich, 120-year old Swedish industrial company which traces its marine roots all the way back to 1902, when it produced its first engines for marine applications. Today, it is a company comprised of 37,500 employees and boasting an annual turnover of 87.7 billions SEK (13 billion US$). The firm emanates from two companies, the first of which (VABIS) was established in 1891 and eventually produced bicycles, railway coaches and horse buggies. Later, its output included motor cars and trucks. The second enterprise (Maskinsfabriks Aktiebolaget Scania) produced boxcars for the Swedish State Railway in addition to rolled steel products.

HII Subsidiary AMSEC to Move HQ

Huntington Ingalls Industries has announced that its AMSEC LLC subsidiary has picked an existing building in Virginia Beach for its new headquarters. AMSEC had been engaged in a two-year search to identify a new location in the Hampton Roads area for its headquarters. AMSEC signed a 10-year lease agreement with the Olympia Development Corp. for the property located at 5701 Cleveland St. AMSEC will occupy approximately half of the six-story, 126,000 square foot building adjacent to Interstate 264.
