Kalmar Key's Open Interfaces for Terminal Automation

Kalmar has announced Kalmar Key, the terminal industry's first automation platform with open interfaces. Kalmar Key provides a common system architecture for building an end-to-end, customised automation platform using Kalmar Terminal Logistics System (TLS) as a basis. Kalmar Completes AGV Project at PSA Singapore

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has successfully completed the project to supply the onboard navigation application for four automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to PSA Singapore. The initiative is part of PSA's strategic investment in automation technologies to enhance its premier status as the world's largest transhipment hub. The project included the design of the AGVs' onboard navigation system, the navigation infrastructure and the deployment of Kalmar SmartFleet remote diagnostic tools. The installation and integration to vehicle systems were started in the autumn of 2013, and the navigation application was fully integrated with PSA Singapore's in-house systems by the end of 2014.

Slow Progress in US West Coast Port Talks

The union for 20,000 dockworkers and a group of their employers at 29 U.S. West Coast ports say they are making slow but steady progress in months-long contract talks seen by the shipping industry as a contributing factor in chronic cargo backups. However, neither side has ventured to say how much longer it might take to reach a settlement, and both parties continued to abide by a news blackout on the details of their talks and the issues that divide them. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association, representing terminal operators and shipping lines at the ports, opened their talks in May and mutually agreed to keep negotiating after their old contract expired June 30.

Keppel, Seafox Partner to Build Jackups

The accommodation jackup rig with Plug & Abandonment (P&A) features will be based on Keppel’s KFELS J Class design which is suited for the harsh environment of the Norwegian North Sea. Keppel to Build New Drillship to its Proprietary Design

The CAN DO drillship will be the front runner in exploration, development and completion operations. Following positive feedback and strong enquiries from the market, Keppel FELS Ltd (Keppel FELS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd. (Keppel O&M), is proceeding with the building of its new CAN DO drillship. When completed in 2016, the drillship is expected to be a state-of-the-art deepwater exploration, development and completion drilling vessel. Marine Survey Company Avoids Storm

On Wednesday April 24, the marine survey company EIVA a/s published its 2012 Annual Report. The offshore specialist thereby concludes a financial year where its activities have been characterised by growth, with high expectations for 2013. While many businesses are still experiencing weak demand, EIVA a/s can look back on a very satisfactory year in the offshore industry. EIVA has provided hardware and software for businesses specialised in energy, engineering and surveys at sea since 1978, which the annual report published today demonstrates through strong results that are the best the company has seen the last 35 years. While the revenue declined by nearly DKK 6 m due to reduced sales of third-party equipment, the number of own products sold advanced.

Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. exercised its option to purchase the HOS Hotshot, a new 165-ft. fast supply boat that it has been operating under a bareboat charter since it was delivered in April 2003. HOS also entered into a definitive agreement to purchase two 6,000 hp ocean-going tugs that were built in 1983. Hornbeck expects to close the tug acquisitions by the end of June 2004, at which time the vessels will be converted for service in the company's U.S. transportation fleet. New Intra-Europe Container Service Debut

Founded in March 2004 and based in Antwerp, Belgium, Delphis NV is a new company that will be active on the intra-European transport market. Delphis is targeting customers in need of European transport solutions : direct shippers, forwarders, deep sea lines and tank/bulk container operators. Northrop Grumman Delivers UK Submarine PMS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has supplied the final batch of Platform Management System (PMS) hardware for the Royal Navy's Astute-class series' boat 5 submarine. Under a performance partnering arrangement, Northrop Grumman's Sperry Marine business unit supplied the PMS to BAE Systems Maritime–Submarines for installation on Astute Boat 5, Anson, at its shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, U.K. The PMS equipment controls and monitors the submarine's platform machinery and onboard systems. The PMS is expected to reduce life cycle costs and minimize program risk for the U.K. Ministry of Defence.

Northrop Grumman to Supply PMS

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been chosen to provide the Platform Management System (PMS) for the next Royal Navy Astute-Class submarine, HMS Audacious.
