Vigor Begins Work on USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53)

Vigor, a Titan company, has been awarded a $131 million U.S. Navy contract to complete a docking selected restricted availability (DSRA) on USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) at Harbor Island in Seattle. The ship arrived at Harbor Island on November 4, becoming the fourth U.S. Navy vessel currently undergoing maintenance at the Seattle shipyard.The DSRA will consist of underwater hull preservation, propulsion overhaul, structural work, valve overhaul, sonar work, deck preservation and significant modifications and alterations.

US Navy Calls In Reservists to Help Clear Ship Maintenance Backlog

The U.S. Navy is mobilizing 1,629 Reservists to support aircraft carrier and submarine maintenance at its four public shipyards starting in July. This mobilization will help reduce the maintenance backlog that has developed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.In March, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) authorized weather and safety leave for shipyard personnel who fell under the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) "high risk" category for extreme complications tied to the COVID-19 virus.

LCE Wins $18.7 Mln Contract to Support Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) said it has been awarded a $18.7 million, five-year contract from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF) to continue to provide Code 200 with engineering services in support of critical submarine maintenance availabilities. As the largest and most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East, PHNSY & IMF has served the nation since 1908 when it was created as a coaling and repair station. The shipyard earned its motto “We Keep Them Fit to Fight” during its pivotal role in World War II and has supported the U.S. Navy Fleet in all 20th and 21st century international conflicts.

Hawaii's Governor David Ige visited Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility December 21 to learn more about the historic shipyard's national security mission and role as the state's largest industrial employer, marking the governor’s first visit to the shipyard since he was elected in 2014. Campbell to Lead BAE Systems’ Ship Repair Business

BAE Systems has named Joseph Campbell as vice president and general manager of the company’s Ship Repair business, effective Jan. 14. Campbell succeeds Bill Clifford, who will retire after a successful 46-year career in the U.S. Navy and the private sector. Campbell will be responsible for leading the strategy, operations and financial and business performance of Ship Repair, including the commercial shipbuilding operations. He previously served as vice president and director at American Systems Corporation, where he was responsible for undersea warfare and naval combatant programs.

BAE Systems Awarded 'USS Hopper' Repair Contract

US Department of Defense informs BAE Systems Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, is being awarded a not-to-exceed $22,905,907 undefinitized contract action to a previously awarded contract (N00024-14-C-4412) for repair and alteration of USS Hopper (DDG-90). DoD explains that USS Hopper will be undergoing a selected restricted availability which is the opportunity in the ship's life cycle to primarily conduct repair and alteration to systems and hull. Work will be performed in Honolulu, Hawaii, and will be completed by October 2014. Fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Navy) funds in the amount of $17,179,430 will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Navy Shipyards Hit by Budget Shutdown

While ongoing operations involving ships at sea and forward-deployed forces are moving along as scheduled, the government shutdown is reverberating throughout the Navy, especially at its shipyards. More than 75,000 Navy civilian employees will be furloughed, according to Military.com. BAE Systems Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, is being awarded a Department of Defense, Navy, $12,820,427 modification to previously awarded contract (N0024-06-C-4408) for repairs to the 'USS Chafee' (DDG 90). This repair modification consists of 106 work items for the USS Chafee scheduled fiscal 2013 dry-docking availability. Work will be performed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is expected to complete in February 2014. Navy contract funds in the amount of $12,820,427 will be obligated at the time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

USS Santa Fe Departs for Western Pacific Deployment

Family and friends bid farewell to the crew on the submarine piers at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Santa Fe (SSN 763) departed July 29, for a deployment to the Western Pacific region. Exhaust Gas Scrubbers, Not MGO, for 'Pride of America'

Green Tech Marine contracted to deliver four of its scrubber units to the Norwegian Cruise Line ship. The scrubbers will be installed in March during a dry dock in Pearl Harbor Naval shipyard. They will replace the ships silencers and clean the exhaust of four, 8 MW engines, in total 32 MW,  in what the manufacturers say is the biggest marine scrubber installation in the world at this time. Thanks to the small size of the scrubbers no valuable space for passengers or crew has to be sacrificed. The system will be a hybrid system, i.e.
