GE’s Power Conversion (NYSE: GE) business has started fitting the latest generation of Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ships Wave Knight and Wave Ruler. The technology is designed extend the life and versatility of the IPMS fitted to the two ships, helping the RFA to maintain at-sea supply capabilities in supporting the Royal Navy’s global maritime operations. L-3 Maritime Systems has been awarded a contract from General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems to supply its Seaframe Control System for the next Independence variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The contract is for the first ship and includes options for an additional 14 ships. LONDON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has signed a full production contract for the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carrier Programme. The company also signed a design phase contract for the Navigation Lights, Shapes and Sounds (NLSS). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS-N (U.K.)) for the new aircraft carriers. The system will include navigation planning, electronic charts and radar displays, as well as a comprehensive set of sensors and software.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) officially opened its new U.K. technical support centre to provide service, repair and maintenance for the company’s inertial navigation systems (INS) used in Royal Navy ships and submarines. The new naval gyrocompass support centre, located at Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine facility in New Malden, U.K., contains a full repair and calibration workshop to support NATO ship INS (SINS) installed on Royal Navy surface warships and attack submarines. Sperry Marine is under contract with the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MoD) to provide ongoing in-service support for these systems. The event was attended by Northrop Grumman executives, as well as MoD officials and local political leaders.

The contract, awarded by BAE SYSTEMS Electronics, the Type 45 prime contractor, calls for Northrop Grumman to develop and deliver six platform management systems (PMS) for the Type 45 ships. The contract also includes options for life-cycle support, including maintenance, repair, spares management, equipment upgrades and training. The PMS is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) system that provides machinery control and surveillance for the ships' main engines, auxiliaries and other systems, as well as damage surveillance and control functions.

CAE announced it has become an exclusive partner in the Thales CVF team's bid to build two 50,000-ton aircraft carriers for the U.K. Royal Navy. The Thales CVF team is one of two competitors expecting a decision on their contract bid by the end of this year. As part of the Thales CVF team, CAE's mandate includes integration of the carriers' platform management systems into ship data transport infrastructure. Platform management components will be supplied through open competition managed by CAE.
