MTS Assists Damen in Maersk Connector Sea Trials

Leading marine service provider, Marine and Towage Services Group Ltd. (MTS) has supported shipbuilder Damen during sea trials of its latest offshore cabling vessel, Maersk Connector. During the two-week testing period, MTS Vigilant, a Damen Shoalbuster, undertook essential anchor handling work to test the capabilities of the new vessel’s advanced mooring systems ahead of her handover to end client Maersk Supply Service and charterer DeepOcean. Current and anticipated growth in the offshore energy sector throughout European waters continues to drive demand for versatile subsea support vessels to carry out critical cable laying and interconnection work.

Cummins QSK60s for 84-Meter Work Boat

Shin Yang Shipyard of Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia has delivered the sister ships MV Anis and MV Alya. Designed by Wartsila Ship Design Singapore, the 83.8-meter (275-foot) maintenance and workboats have massive capacities. Accommodation is provided for up to 199 people. Tankage is provided for 800 cubic meters of fuel and 900 m3 of water. The vessels each have two 50 m3 per day water-makers. Additionally there is tankage for 80 m3 of urea, 20 m3 of sludge, and 10 m3 of lube oil. There is 700 square meters of open deck cargo space.

For propulsion, each vessel is fitted with a pair of Cummins QSK60M engines each delivering 2200 HP at 1800 RPM. The engines turn four-blade 2000-m/m fix-pitch propellers through Twin Disc MG5600 marine gears with 5.04:1 rations.

MacGregor to Supply Deck Machinery to 6 OSVs

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, says it has won a series of deck equipment orders from Chinese shipbuilder Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd. The winches and deck machinery packages will be fitted to six vessels under construction at the yard. Two 100m 300-person accommodation/work barges will each feature eight-point mooring systems, with an 85-tonne line pull/150-tonne brake holding capacity, tugger winches and capstans. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered from the second quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2016. The remaining four 99.8m accommodation/installation maintenance and repair vessels will each feature a range of deck machinery with delivery planned from the third quarter of 2015 through to the second quarter of 2016.

Rolls-Royce to Supply Rig Equipment for Samsung Heavy

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to supply thrusters and deck machinery for two semi-submersible drilling rigs to be built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea for Stena Drilling. Rolls-Royce reported the value of the contract to be around £22.5 million. Rolls-Royce is a supplier of large thrusters and deck machinery to the offshore drilling market. So far the company has delivered 1,200 thrusters to close to 200 rigs and drillships, and mooring systems to 25 rigs. The rigs, two Moss CS60 harsh-environment semi-submersible drilling rigs…

Strong Track-record Wins Repeat MacGregor Orders

A series of new MacGregor offshore winch orders, secured in October, will serve the strong demand for maintenance, hook-up and commissioning services for existing oil platforms within the shallow water region of the Malay basin, says Francis Wong, Director, Segment Sales and Marketing, Offshore. "As oil prices remain high and oil majors continue to invest in exploration and production activities in the region, this has continued to boost the demand for new businesses relating to these services," explains Mr Wong. "Consequently, maintenance work boats and barges are in high demand to serve the needs of the area's oil platforms, many of which are operated by Petronas and Shell.
