Stena Line Acquires Ferry and RoRo Port Operations in Ventspils

Port of Gdynia Seeking Partner for Outer Port Development Project

The Port of Gdynia Authority (PGA) in Poland has recently launched a formal procedure to select a private partner for the construction of the outer port in the Port of Gdynia.The project is a strategic investment of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A., and is enlisted in the Polish government’s Seaports Development Program. The outer port development project, which is being prepared as a public-private partnership, consists of the construction of a new deep-water container terminal with an annual transshipment capacity of 2.5 million TEU.

On October 15, 2019, Nexans hosted the grand block ceremony that represented a key step in the construction of its ground-breaking cable installation vessel, the ‘Nexans Aurora’. Global Trade Center Stage at Poland’s Maritime Conference

The biggest annual gathering of Poland’s maritime industry leaders, the Maritime Economy Forum Gdynia is unveiling its program.The day-long event, now in its 19th year, takes place on October 11 in Gdynia, featuring 30 speakers with 600 senior figures from Poland’s maritime sector and around the world expected to attend.Forum chairman Slawomir Kalicki said the conference will see a morning session examine some of the biggest issues facing the international maritime sector, worth an estimated $3-$6 trillion a year, from an EU, Baltic Sea and Polish perspective.

BCT Upgrades Intermodal Facility

Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Gdynia, Poland recently completed its railway terminal modernization project last December. Part of BCT’s largest investment program, the modernization project was carried out in partnership with the Port of Gdynia Authority and was backed by the European Union Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment. With the project complete, BCT’s new rail facility can service up to 24 full container trains each day and has an annual capacity of 500,000 TEUs. “This joint investment improves the competitiveness of our terminal and the port of Gdynia,” says Krzysztof Szymborski, BCT Chief Executive Officer. 5 Kalmar RTGs for GCT, Poland

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained a further order for five of its latest generation zero emission rubber-tyred gantry granes (RTGs) from Gdynia Container Terminal (GCT) in Poland. The order follows the delivery of two similar machines earlier in 2014. The latest order was booked into Cargotec's fourth quarter intake with delivery scheduled for December 2015. GCT opted to specify the Kalmar solution as the 41 tonne capacity E-One2 Zero Emission RTG, which stacks 6+1 wide and 1-over-6 high. This model produces lower emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered RTGs and requires significantly less maintenance thanks to its simplified design.

Rolls-Royce Opens Poland Facility

Rolls-Royce opened a new Marine Service Center today in the Port of Gdynia, Poland. The opening marks the latest stage in the development of a global Marine Service Center network, which provides 24-hour access to Rolls-Royce skills and expertise to customers in 35 countries. The Gdynia Marine Service Centre will employ around 80 people, 30 on site and up to 50 mobile service engineers. In addition to servicing and maintenance, the facility will lead marketing, sales and the supply of new marine equipment and spare parts for the Baltic region. Today’s opening ceremony also coincides with the official launch of Rolls-Royce Poland, which will coordinate the Group’s activity in this important and expanding market.

New Cat-Powered Tugboat Ordered

A new Caterpillar powered tugboat ordered by the Port and Maritime Services Co. Ltd. in Gdansk, is set to play a key role in the ambitious expansion plans of the port authority. Improving the facilities available to customers using the port of Gdansk, including ship owners visiting the massive Remontowa ship repair yard or trading goods into or out of the country, the new vessel is part of an initiative designed to allow Poland to capitalize on its location as one of the major gateways between Russia and the West.
