Costa Cruises Completes Italy's First LNG Bunkering

Carnival Corporation's Costa Cruises brand said its liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered flagship Costa Smeralda has become he first vessel to bunker LNG in Italy.Carried out in the port of La Spezia and completed at 6 p.m. on Sunday, the operation was supported by the Italian Coast Guard, Port Authority of Eastern Ligurian Sea, local authorities and Shell, which is the LNG supplier partner for Costa Group and its parent company, Carnival Corporation.The operation took place with the ship berthed at Molo Garibaldi pier…

Rimorchiatori Spezzini Orders Two Damen ASD Tugs

Rimorchiatori Spezzini, a subsidiary of the Scafi Group, contracted Damen Shipyards Group for two new Damen ASD Tugs 2411. The order comes as part of Scafi’s plans to expand its fleet in response to the newly assigned harbor towage concession in the port of Safi, Morocco. The two new ASD Tugs will be based in the Port of La Spezia, an important maritime hub for commercial markets in North Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. UASC and CSCL Increasing Asia-Med Service

UASC and CSCL upgrade deployment on joint Asia to Med Service. United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) and  CSCL will as a result of the change in deployment in Asia to North Europe, redeploy tonnage into their existing joint Asia to MED service (AMC1/AMX1) through deployment of a combination of 10 x 7,000 to 8,000 Teu vessel (CSCL 3 x 8,500/UASC 7 x 7,000) bringing the deployment on this service to 10 from the present 9 vessels. Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Port Kelang, Port Said, La Spezia, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Port Said, Jeddah, Khor Fakkan, Port Kelang, Quingdao. The new deployment will commence from the 2nd half of February 2012.

CSI Operational at La Spezia

Container Security Initiative (CSI) has become operational at the port of La Spezia, Italy. In Europe, the Bureau is looking to expand CSI to at least 11 additional ports, including Livorno, Gioia Tauro, and Naples. CBP and the government of Italy signed a declaration of principles on November 7, 2002. As part of the CSI program, CBP deployed a team of officers to the port of Genoa on June 16, 2003 to work with host government personnel to target high-risk cargo containers destined for the United States. Italian government officials are responsible for screening any container identified jointly with CBP officers as a potential terrorist risk. The port of La Spezia is the 15th CSI port to become operational.
