Konecranes and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) have signed a licensing agreement for the manufacturing and distribution of Konecranes port cranes in India. The first products have been sold under this agreement: two shipyard jib cranes will be delivered to the Cochin Shipyard in Cochin, Kerala province.The agreement between Konecranes and L&T’s Minerals & Metals business unit covers manually operated Ship-to-Shore cranes, Rubber-Tired Gantry cranes and Rail-Mounted Gantry cranes across Konecranes’ brand portfolio. Konecranes shipyard cranes are also included.

Swire Bulk said it will operate a new liner service between Southeast Asia and Europe from June 2022 in addition to its tramp services.The company said it will deploy one to two vessels on a monthly rotation into Europe, calling at Amamapare (Indonesia), Singapore, and Dahej (India) to load cargo before arriving in Huelva (Spain), Antwerp (Belgium) and Brunsbüttel (Germany) for discharge operations. In the first quarter of 2021, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. ordered two eco-efficient Konecranes Gottwald Model 8 Cranes on Barge. The cranes will be operated by Cosco Shipping Bulk Co. Ltd. Finnish manufacturer of cranes and lifting equipment Konecranes Oyj has won an order to supply a terminal at Tangier Med Port II with 16 Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes.The cranes will be delivered in batches with the last ones arriving by mid-July 2020. The order was booked in May 2019.The 16 Konecranes RTGs will go into service at the new container terminal TC3, Tanger Med 2, in the Port of Tangier. They will be the first Konecranes container cranes in Morocco. The provider of smart port solutions Konecranes’ long relationship with the EUROGATE Group continues with the signing, early this year, of an order for 17 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers for EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg.According to a press release, this order follows upon the delivery in 2018 of 43 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carrier to EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg and Bremerhaven and MSC Gate Bremerhaven.Konecranes’ relationship with the EUROGATE Group extends back to the beginning of containerization 50 years ago. Today, around 250 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers are operated by EUROGATE terminals in Northern Germany, and the fleet is growing. Early in 2019, Konecranes received and booked an order from EUROGATE Hamburg for 17 more Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers.

The smart terminal solutions provider Konecranes has received another order for the delivery of an Automated RTG (ARTG) System to PT Prima Terminal Petikemas, a subsidiary of state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero).The ARTG system on order includes 12 ARTG cranes with associated software, interfaces and services, said a press release from the company.The 12 ARTGs will be delivered in January 2020 to Belawan Container Terminal, Phase 2 in Medan, North Sumatra. They will be identical to those already delivered to PT Prima Multi Terminal in Kuala Tanjung, Indonesia.Indonesia is a strategically important country for Konecranes.

Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has selected Konecranes to be the supplier of an Automated Stacking Crane (ASC) system for the second phase of the building of its container terminal in Khalifa Port: the Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT).This is an order for a total of 54 Automated Rail Mounted Gantry (ARMG) cranes. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the value of the deal. The order will be booked in Q4 2018.Konecranes earlier successfully delivered 52 ARMG cranes, on time and on budget for the first phase of KPCT container terminal, which went live on 12/12/12. The second phase involves a large expansion of the terminal area, infrastructure, container handling capacity, and the delivery of 54 Konecranes ARMGs.

JSSC Klaipedos Smelte in the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, has placed a large repeat order with Konecranes for ten Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes and two Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes.The delivery of the RTG cranes will be completed in November 2019 and the STS cranes in December 2019. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.In August 2018 Konecranes signed a contract with JSSC Klaipedos Smelte in the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, for the supply of ten Konecranes RTG cranes and two Konecranes STS cranes.JSSC Klaipedos Smelte already operates seven Konecranes RTGs and three Konecranes STSs, and they are very pleased with the high productivity and reliability of the cranes.

The Port of Koper operator in Slovenia, Luka Koper d.d., has ordered five electric Konecranes RTG cranes. The cranes will be equipped with cable reels featuring an auto plug-in system.They will be delivered in the summer of 2019. The contract was signed in June and the order was booked in Q2 2018.Luka Koper’s new Konecranes RTGs will offer important environmental benefits thanks to their electric operation: regenerative power feedback to the local grid, ambient lighting with LED lights and low noise.The cranes will also have driver-assistance features that boost productivity: Auto-steering, Auto-TOS reporting, Auto-positioning, and Stack Collision Prevention. “Luka Koper has been our customer for over fourteen years.

Konecranes recently commissioned the mobile harbor crane in in the new terminal of SIR in Brindisi, Italy, where it will handle coal destined for power generation in continuous-duty operation. SIR srl (SIR), a leading provider of industry-related environmental services, purchased in May 2018 the eco-efficient diesel-electric crane to be the backbone of its new port business. Antonio Roma, Managing Director and owner, SIR, explains, “We won a tender to provide a coal-fired power plant in Brindisi with imported coal and have taken the opportunity to launch our own handling activity in the Port of Brindisi. The Model 2 crane will play a key role in the supply chain from bulk vessels to the power station, as it will ensure productive and reliable handling of inbound coal in the long term.

Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Pte Ltd (BMCT), a wholly owned subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd (PSA), exercised its option to purchase a further 18 Konecranes Noell Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes. This order follows upon an initial order for 18 RTG and 4 RMG cranes that will be delivered by the end of this year. The 18 RTGs currently on order will be delivered in two lots: 9 units will be delivered by August 2018, and the remaining 9 by end-2018. At this time BMCT will operate a total of 36 Konecranes Noell RTG cranes and 4 Konecranes Noell RMG cranes. The RMG cranes will be used in BMCT’s railyard, which can handle double-stack container trains up to 1.5 km long. They will be powered from the terminal’s mains and will not generate any local exhaust emissions.

During the second quarter 2017, Konecranes received an order for 9 RTGs from Port Houston, Texas, USA. This is a repeat order, the first Konecranes RTGs to Port Houston were delivered in 2003. The nine cranes will be delivered to Port Houston Bayport Container Terminal in early fall 2018. Port Houston is an economic engine that produces jobs and economic prosperity for the local and state economy. It is the largest port on the Gulf Coast, the biggest port in Texas and the only port in Houston. Port Houston strives to be America’s hub for the next generation. The purchase of the new RTGs will support the peak demand brought to Port Houston by the next generation container vessels.

The fleet of diesel-electric Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes in Japan continues to grow. In spring 2017, Terex Port Solutions (TPS) will supply a Model 2 crane to the Port of Otake in the south of the country. There, the machine in the G HMK 2204 two-rope variant ordered via Chikuho Seisakusho Co., Ltd. (CS) will handle mainly containers and general cargo. For this purpose, the new crane has a lifting capacity curve adapted to Japanese requirements with a maximum lifting capacity of 62 t, an outreach of up to 40 m and a maximum lifting speed of 85 m/min. The machine is also equipped with a second, specially developed load display in order to meet the relevant requirements for the safe load indicator in the Japanese market.

Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT), the new container and general cargo terminal on the Congo River, DR Congo, has received the first of two new mobile cranes scheduled to go into service at the terminal. The Terex Model 5 crane is the largest member of the medium size crane family available from Terex Port Solutions and was delivered fully erect on-board the m/v BBC ODER which commenced its voyage from Antwerp, Belgium. With a working radius of up to 51m, the geometry of the Model 5 unit is designed to serve Panamax class container ships. This unit and its sister unit, set to arrive in September, will operate with an automatic twin-lift spreader (60t in twin lift and 50t in single lift) and will also provide a heavy lift capability, 125t at an outreach of 18m.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has obtained design approval for Terex Gottwald Model 8 floating cranes in the G HPK 8200 B four-rope grab variant operated on the open sea. This was necessary because the Lloyd's Register Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment has changed since the initial approval of the machines in 2007. The design of the crane, which offers an outreach of maximum 50 m, a 63 t grab curve and lifting speeds of up to 140 m/min, has also been completely reworked in the meantime and adapted to the current Model 8 series standard. According to Lloyd’s Register, the G HPK 8200 B cranes can be used at wave heights of up to 2.5 m and wind speeds of up to 20 m/s.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has received orders from Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Pte Ltd (BMCT), a wholly owned subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd (PSA) to supply various types of Terex stacking cranes. The orders include eighteen Terex rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG) and four Terex rail-mounted gantry cranes (RMG). The RTG order also includes an option on 18 additional units. The flexible, productive and environmentally friendly machines will be handed over in three batches of six units each of RTGs between September and November 2017 whilst the RMG cranes will be delivered to Mumbai in September 2017. The RMGs will be utilized in BMCT’s railyard, which can handle double stack container trains of up to 1.5 km long.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has again strengthened its business relations with a leading Italian terminal operator. Lorenzini & C. S.r.l. (Lorenzini) will put another diesel-electric Terex Gottwald Model 7 mobile harbour crane in the G HMK 7608 two-rope variant into operation mid-November. The machine is the third Terex Gottwald Model 7 crane that Lorenzini acquired in the past two years. In autumn 2014, a first crane in the G HMK 7608 variant went to the terminal in Livorno, followed in summer 2015 by a G HMK 7408. With the new machine, the fleet size of Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes at Lorenzini has increased to five. Like the two other machines, the new G HMK 7608 crane will mainly help Lorenzini to handle  containers.

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) is for the first time automating a straddle carrier fleet for Ports of Auckland Ltd. (POAL) from New Zealand. By mid-2019, TPS will supply a total of 27 new, fully automated N SC 644 E (1-over-3) machines to work in the container stackyard and to serve trucks. At the same time, 21 existing manual straddle carriers are being upgraded so that they can work hand in hand with the 27 fully automated machines. In addition to the supply and upgrade of the vehicles, the order also includes all sub-systems and software systems required for operation. Before POAL placed the order, TPS verified the feasibility and safety of the concept in a detailed study. 900,000 TEU to 1.6 to 1.7 million TEU.
