Alfa Laval to Expand Test & Training Center
The Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark will soon be expanded to five times its current size. This development, focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other alternative fuels, aims to address new challenges and possibilities for marine customers as they strive to meet environmental and energy targets. Alfa Laval said the expansion will create the world’s most advanced test center for environmental and combustion technology – regardless of fuel type. Alfa Laval describes its Test & Training Center as a cornerstone of customer-focused technology development.
Alfa Laval Opens Test & Training Center
After months of preparation, the doors of the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center in Aalborg, Denmark are open. Located on the site of the former Aalborg shipyard, this massive ship simulation facility – the largest and most advanced in the marine industry – now adds considerable muscle to Alfa Laval’s research and development efforts. The Alfa Laval Test & Training Center comprises a 250 m2 testing area, built around a 2 MW marine engine and comprising commercial and prototype equipment from all of Alfa Laval’s marine product groups.

Just two months remain until the inauguration of the Alfa Laval Test & Training Center on January 15, 2014. Originally conceived for the development of PureSOX and other emission control technologies, it has grown to incorporate far more than just exhaust systems. Wärtsilä 34DF Recieves U.S. EPA Certificate
Wärtsila obtained certification of emission standard compliance from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines. It will enable Wärtsilä to strongly enter the American market with marine engine technology that offers operators and owners the option of using either diesel or gas as fuel. The certification was obtained on January 17, 2013.
