ABB has secured a contract with shipbuilder Fincantieri to deliver in total eight mid-range Azipod propulsion systems for four forthcoming medium-sized cruise vessels. The ships are due for delivery in 2024, 2025, 2026 and in 2027.The passenger ships will be equipped with two 7.7-megawatt Azipod propulsion units per vessel.With the electric drive motor housed within a pod outside the ship hull, the Azipod system can rotate 360 degrees, increasing maneuverability and allowing vessels to dock in harbors where turning circles are restricted.

Wärtsilä launched the 46TS-DF medium-speed marine engine.The first order for this engine type was placed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique for Royal Caribbean Cruises in April 2021. DNV GL has presented Oshima Shipbuilding Company with an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate for a LNG-fuelled Kamsarmax bulk carrier at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Oslo today. The new design has been found to comply with DNV GL class rules and all current and upcoming regulations, including the new emission control regulations and the draft IGF Code for fuel with a low flashpoint.
