Ferry Committee to Decide on Firm

A committee could decide this month on a consulting firm that wants to operate a ferry across the Chesapeake Bay. Committee spokesman says the transport would be between Somerset County in Maryland and Reedville on Virginia's northern neck. The Maryland-Virginia Ferry Committee tentatively has set August 29th to review a proposal by MetroMarine Holdings that would include a plan for vessels, prospective operators and start-up loans or grants. MetroMarine will submit steps to follow for an implementation phase. The Maryland-Virginia Ferry Committee cut ties last month with Martin Associates, a Pennsylvania consulting firm that turned in a ferry economic impact study incomplete after a three-month extension. Senator Lott Will Headline PVA’s MariTrends 2002

The Passenger Vessel Association (PVA) annual convention at MariTrends 2002 will be held February 16-19, 2002 at the Grand Casino-Biloxi, Biloxi, Miss. MariTrends 2002, dubbed the passenger vessel industry’s comprehensive convention, will allow attendees and exhibitors to engage in a variety of seminars, workshops aimed at informing and assisting current operators small and large, prospective operators and government officials.
