Project 955 Borei nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) 'Yury Dolgoruky' commissioned into Russian Navy. Project 955 Borei fourth-generation submarines were developed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau (St. Petersburg). New technologies of shipboard radioelectronics and noise reduction were applied during their construction. Basic weapon of the Borei-class submarines is the ballistic missile system Bulava. Each sub may carry 16 solid-propellant ballistic missiles R-30 Bulava with a flight range of over 10,000 km equipped with independently targetable reentry vehicles.

The keel for the boat (serial number 8002) was laid down and altogether the defense ministry has ordered three similar boats to be constructed by JSC Vostochnaya Verf with possible option to expand the series. Vostochnaya Verf became the second shipyard to build Grachonok-class special purpose boats. First boat of the project – P-104 (serial number 981) – was built by Zelenodolsk Shipyard for the Baltic Fleet in 2009. P-104 serves in harbor defense brigade of Leningrad Naval Base and is stationed in Kronshtadt. The boat has already proved herself as an effective counter-terror vessel.

The German navigation system supplier Raytheon Anschütz was recently awarded a contract for the delivery of an integrated bridge and navigation system for a Fisheries Research Vessel, newbuilding 1378 at STX Finland. STX Finland has again selected Raytheon Anschütz to deliver the integrated bridge and navigation system, as well as the Dynamic Positioning System (DP) and a radio station according to GMDSS A3 for this advanced Fisheries Research Vessel. The 62 meter long vessel is being built at STX Finland Rauma shipyard and will be owned by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Namibia. The new vessel will be equipped with two Radar and two ECDIS bridge workstations as well as with a Conning workstation for the navigation bridge…

Transas Marine has extended its range of GMDSS simulators by introducing the TGS 4000 system. The new TGS 4000 simulator complements and enhances the existing TGS 2000 and TGS 3000 versions, by offering a number of new features which reflect the latest developments in shipboard communication equipment, based on modern PC environment. The GMDSS simulator TGS 4000 includes one Instructor workplace and up to 16 Student workstations operating under Windows NT. In addition to the functionality gained in the previous versions, the TGS 4000 simulates communications via Inmarsat-B ship earth stations. The TGS 4000 offers the added facility for airplane communications using AERO VHF on the aircraft emergency frequencies. The new simulator provides realistic simulation of radio wave propagation.
