RAN Expands Training with Kongsberg Simulators
Kongsberg Digital has signed a contract for a delivery of two new K-Sim Full Mission Bridge simulators at the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) HMAS Watson Bridge Simulator Facility in Watsons Bay, Sydney, Australia. The project is a noteworthy addition to Kongsberg’s service delivery contracts with the RAN, which includes multiple shiphandling and engine room simulators delivered at training facilities across the country.The requirement for expansion and intensification of RAN’s training program is the result of a sustained period of growth and capability enhancement for the navy.
Australian Navy Commissions HMAS Adelaide
GE Marine reports that its LM2500 gas turbines now power the Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Adelaide which was commissioned in late 2015. Alongside sister HMAS Canberra, these 230-meter-long Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships are the largest vessels ever built for the RAN. According to the RAN, HMAS Adelaide was designed with the shallowest possible draft and can deploy an embarked force of more than 1,000 personnel and their equipment, landing ashore via landing craft or helicopters.
HMAS Childers Returns from Indian Ocean
The Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) HMAS Childers has arrived in Darwin after participating in Milan 2014, the biannual international naval event hosted by the Indian Navy in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from February 5-9, 2014. Warships Ready to Sail for Fleet Entry
Twenty Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and international warships are anchored in Jervis Bay, poised to sail into Sydney for the International Fleet Review (IFR). They will form part of a global fleet of over 40 ships making a magnificent entry into Sydney Harbour between 6 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, October 4 to commemorate the Navy’s very first fleet entry 100 years ago. Director of the IFR Captain Nick Bramwell said you can feel the excitement and anticipation of the crews in Jervis Bay.
