MacGregor, part of Cargotec, said it has completed its EUR 16 million ($19.8 million) acquisition of Rapp Marine Group (RMG) after first announcing the deal in December 2017. "With MacGregor's Triplex deck handling portfolio we already today have a very strong position in the fishery and research vessel segment and the addition of Rapp Marine's team members and technologies further strengthens our position," said Høye Høyesen, Vice President, Advanced Offshore Solutions, MacGregor. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement to acquire Rapp Marine Group (RMG) in order to strengthen its offering for the fishery and research vessel segment. The enterprise value of the acquisition was approximately €16 million ($19 million). With RMG, MacGregor is able to expand upon its existing portfolio which already includes various deck handling equipment, such as cranes and booms, to now offer complete solutions with advanced winches and related control systems. "MacGregor has a strategic interest in widening services for customers within fishery and research segment," said Michel van Roozendaal, President, MacGregor. "Products needed for these demanding vessel types have to be safe, robust and reliable with a good after sales network.

The group’s business in the United States is organized under the parent company, Rapp Hydema U.S. Inc., a holding company with three wholly-owned subsidiaries that are controlled from the headquarters in Seattle. Rapp Hydema Northwest operates a workshop and local production. Rapp Hydema AK is the service arm of the Alaskan office and runs an engineering yard in Dutch Harbor. Rapp Hydema Subsea (Houston) is responsible for the offshore market. The Rapp Marine Group has developed advanced machinery and equipment for the marine and offshore oil industries worldwide for more than 100 years.

Helge Vatnehol has been appointed Group CEO of Rapp Marine. Vatnehol comes from the position of Senior Vice President Offshore Deck Machinery in Rolls Royce and takes over on September 1, 2014. “The companies in the winch division of former Rapp Marine Group have been collected within Rapp Marine Group. We are delighted that Helge Vatnehol has accepted the challenge to lead the group,” said Board Chairman of Rapp Marine, Olav Fjell. Vatnehol joined Rolls-Royce in 2000. He is currently Managing Director and board member of its Norwegian branch Rolls-Royce Marine AS.

Rapp Hydema, the winch and deck machinery specialist, are opening a new office in Stavanger. “We are pleased to be present in Norway’s most expansive offshore environment. This new establishment is both strategic and necessary to meet our customers’ demands for service and support,” said Inge Henning Andersen, Managing Director of RH. Rapp Hydema has hired Runar Tunem to head the Offshore Sales Division in Stavanger, where he will be responsible for global sales and marketing.

Rapp Marine Group recently acquired Hydra Pro Seattle, a crane manufacturing firm. Possessing both American Petroleum Institute (API) Spec 2C and ISO 9001:  2008 certifications, Rapp Hydra Pro is a rarity in the crane community. Hydra Pro also manufactures A-Frames, cylinders and other associated machinery. Hydra Pro’s clientele includes customers the offshore oil industry, the U.S. military, and various other marine subsectors, including ROV-handling. Kurt Manchester is the new Hydra Pro President; he has over 25 years of manufacturing experience.
