Port of New Orleans Elects New Board Chairman

Port of New Orleans' Board of Commissioners Elects William T. Bergeron Chairman; Michael W. Kearney Elected Vice Chair, Robert Barkerding Jr. The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans today elected William T. Bergeron chairman. Bergeron represents St. Bernard Parish and joined the Board in November of 2012 when he was appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Scott H. Cooper, whose term as chairman expired this month. Cooper will continue to serve as a commissioner. In addition, Michael W. Kearney was elected vice chairman and Robert R. Barkerding, Jr. as its secretary-treasurer.

H-Energy to Build Floating LNG Terminal in West Bengal and Canada

Business Standard reported that real estate developer Hiranandani Group plans to set up a INR 2,400 crore floating LNG import terminal off Haldia, West Bengal and supply imported gas to users as far as Paradip in Odisha. H-Energy Pvt Ltd, the Energy arm of the Hiranandani Group, plans to set up a 4 million tons a year floating storage and Re-gasification unit (FSRU) some 115-km off the Haldia coast by first quarter of 2019. In the Natural Gas business, upstream integration is common. In order to achieve logistical integration with its regasification Projects in India, H-Energy is seriously examining the option of setting up a 13.5 MMTPA natural gas Liquefaction terminal in Canada.

Port of LA Waterfront Property Draws Developer Interest

Port of Los Angeles receives 8 proposals to develop its 30-acre LA waterfront property. The 30-acre, fully entitled San Pedro waterfront property is known as Ports O’ Call Village, located along the Port’s Main Channel and adjacent to downtown San Pedro. The deadline for submitting proposals was Friday, Oct. 5th. The development site includes 3,000 linear feet of rare water frontage and 375,000 square feet of retail and tourism-related entitled uses. Keppel FELS to Build $205m Jackup Rig

Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) will build a third KFELS B Class jackup drilling rig worth about US$205 million for PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corp’s (PV Drilling) subsidiary PetroVietnam Drilling Investment Corp (PVD Invest). The agreement is subject to conditions being met by March 14. This latest unit and PVD Invest’s second rig PV Drilling II, which is already under construction at Keppel FELS, are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2009 respectively.

St. Petersburg Shipbuilding Industry Sees Decline

Shipbuilding in St. Petersburg, according to the St. Petersburg Times, is shrinking. In the past, the city’s three largest shipyards - Admiralteyskiye Verfi, Baltiysky Zavod and Severnaya Verf - were overloaded with state orders for submarines and ships, tankers and ice-beakers. But today, many shipbuilding engineers and workers are facing a different circumstance. State orders are no longer able to support the industry. Instead, more successful are those who export their frigates and submarines to India and China. These days any land in St. Petertsburg, but especially along the coast, is in high demand. Shipyards are attracting property developers rather than researchers and developers.
