bound4blue to Install Its eSAIL on Cargo Vessel Newbuild

bound4blue reports it has been selected to install a 22-meter-high eSAIL on board the newbuild multipurpose cargo vessel Na Pae E Hiro, helping shipowner SNA TUHA’A PAE (SNA) reduce energy consumption by 10%. Launching in 2026, the trailblazing ship will mix green technology with an ambition to accelerate development of the remote Austral Islands, carrying both vital supplies and up to 200 tourists on its voyages from Tahiti to the South Pacific archipelago.The eSAIL, designed for both retrofits and newbuilds, is a ‘suction sail’.

Wave of Success: Miros Secures 'Numerous' WaveSystem Contracts in First Half of 2023

Wave measurement specialist Miros said Tuesday it had secured numerous contracts with new clients in the offshore vessel market during the first half of this year for its sea state as a service offering.The new as a service (aaS) contracts span the global offshore vessel market, with particular emphasis on the key markets of UKCS, Norway, and Brazil, Miros said, without providing details on contract values or client identities.The projects will see the Miros WaveSystem deployed across vessels

Kongsberg Maritime Unveils Next-gen Offshore Vessel Designs

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime on Tuesday showcased a new line of offshore ship designs in its UT Design portfolio. The new anchor handler (AHT) and platform supply vessels (PSV) have the option to include alternative energy sources and fuels, such as methanol, ammonia, and hybrid-battery power.The AHT and PSV designs have received Approval in Principle from class society DNV to operate with ammonia-fuelled engines and they can incorporate an offshore charging capable plug-in hybrid option

Vallianz to Build Hybrid Heavy Transport Vessel for Ever-growing Offshore Wind Components

Singapore-based shipowner Vallianz has partnered up with Ulstein Design & Solutions B.V, Shift Clean Energy, and Bureau Veritas to design and build a heavy transport vessel (HTV) that will be "the first of its kind in the global offshore wind industry."The HTV is planned to be deployed for the transportation of structures such as monopiles, jackets, transition pieces and turbine blades to support offshore wind farm projects, as well as heavy structure modules for LNG and carry out floatover operations of offshore structures.

DSME Orders Wärtsilä Thrusters for Eneti's WTIV

Finland-based marine technology company Wärtsilä will supply the seven thrusters for Eneti's new Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) being built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine yard in South Korea."By providing outstanding thrust, robust station-keeping capability, and efficient transit operation, the Wärtsilä thrusters will enable optimal propulsion performance for the vessel. SHI to Build Six Giant Box Ships for Evergreen

South Korean  shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed shipbuilding deals for Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen’s latest ultra-large containerships, valued at a total of USD 920 million.SHI said that  the order was placed for the construction of six of the world’s largest container ships, world’s largest smart, Eco-friendly mega-ships, with a capacity of 23,000 TEUs, by May 2022. SHI said these newbuildings will be 400 m long, 61.5 m wide, 33.2 m high. Size-wise, these exceed the world’s largest container ship with a capacity of 23,756 TEU, which was delivered by SHI to MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, in July 2019.The order from Evergreen reinforces SHI’s position as the leading shipbuilder of ultra-large containerships

TMC to Deliver Marine Compressors to Vard

Norway-based shipbuilder Vard Group AS has awarded TMC Compressors of the Seas (TMC) to supply the marine compressed air system for two cruise ships the Norwegian shipbuilder is constructing for Viking Cruises.TMC’s scope of work is to deliver a complete marine compressed air system that consists of instrument air compressors and air dryers, to each of the two newbuild cruise ships. TMC has not disclosed the value of its contract.“As the international cruise sector increasingly emphasizes reduced energy consumption and lower emissions to air, our compressed air systems are becoming progressively more popular amongst cruise operators and shipbuilders.

The portfolio is based on Ulstein's ‘compact concept’ of shorter, wider and slower design solutions, leading to high capacity vessels and less expensive newbuilds.The X-BOW is one of Ulstein’s contributions to cleaner and more sustainable shipping operations. Introducing the X-BOW on RoPax vessels is a natural design development.Many RoPax vessels operate in harsh areas, for which the X-BOW was originally designed. An X-BOW vessel at the same speed and weather conditions will use less power than a conventional bow vessel.

Norwegian shipbuilder Ulstein Verft has awarded a contract to Hydroniq Coolers to deliver a hull-integrated seawater cooling system for a polar expedition vessel the shipbuilder is constructing for Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc.The expedition vessel, designed by Ulstein, will be the first polar new build in the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet. Teekay, Samsung Opt for Hydroniq Coolers

Norwegian supplier Hydroniq Coolers has won contracts from Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (SHI) to deliver the cooling system for the engines of the six LNG-fuelled shuttle tankers the shipbuilder is constructing for Teekay Offshore.As per the contracts, Hydroniq Coolers – formerly named Sperre Coolers – will deliver its Hydroniq Rack seawater cooling solution that is integrated in the hull below the main engine room of the vessels. Marine cooling systems are utilised to reduce temperatures in the ships’ engines and other auxiliary systems through use of seawater.Hydroniq Coolers has not disclosed the value of the contracts.“Teekay Offshore and Samsung have chosen the industry’s most energy efficient and maintenance friendly efficient marine seawater cooler.

Glosten, Bieker Boats Design Ultra Fuel-Efficient Vessel

Konecranes Wins New Order for RTG System from Indonesia

The smart terminal solutions provider Konecranes has received another order for the delivery of an Automated RTG (ARTG) System to PT Prima Terminal Petikemas, a subsidiary of state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero).The ARTG system on order includes 12 ARTG cranes with associated software, interfaces and services, said a press release from the company.The 12 ARTGs will be delivered in January 2020 to Belawan Container Terminal, Phase 2 in Medan, North Sumatra. They will be identical to those already delivered to PT Prima Multi Terminal in Kuala Tanjung, Indonesia.Indonesia is a strategically important country for Konecranes.

Becker Mewis Duct Claims Massive CO2 Reduction

Golden Becker Mewis Duct at SMM 2014 claims its top-selling product has already cut CO2 by 900,000 tonnes to date. A golden Becker Mewis Duct with a large '750“ in the middle will be one of SMM 2014’s “head-turners” says the manufacturer. “This is how we are celebrating the 750th unit of our top-selling product,” said Dirk Lehmann, Managing Director of Becker Marine Systems. More than 800 units of the highly efficient nozzle for reducing energy consumption have now been sold. According to Lehmann, “All of the nozzles delivered thus far have already been able to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 900,000 tonnes.“ The million tonne CO2 mark is projected to be exceeded this year.

GFTC Showcases Sustainable Logistical Practices

Logistics industry leaders detail important shifts in sustainable practices at the recent 2013 Georgia Foreign Trade Conference (GFTC). From major retailers to trucking and shipping, the companies represented at the 45th annual GFTC, are making major strides in emissions control, reduced energy consumption and cost savings. “American companies and ports are working together to reduce the environmental footprint of the transportation sector,” said Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz. Westfalia Separators for "Triple E" Class

The Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has placed an order for a total of 160 separators of the new eagleclass generation with GEA Westfalia Separator Group. They will operate on the twenty unequalled Triple-E container ships of A.P. Moeller Maersk shipping line, which will be launched between the end of 2013 and 2015. The Triple-E class is a new development of superlative in many respects. Every ship will be 400 metres in length, 59 metres in width and 73 meters in height, and can load 18,000 twenty-foot containers. The draft will be around 14.5 metres.

DOE Recognizes NSWC Carderock for Federal Energy and Water Management

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) in selected Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock, a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity, Aug. 18 for the 2008 Federal Energy and Water Management Award. NSWC Carderock is one of two Navy commands to earn the award for its energy efficiency and energy management program in the organization category. "I can't say enough good things about our facilities division, their innovation and dedication," said Capt. Mark W. Thomas, NSWC Carderock Division commander. DoE, in conjunction with the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee, sponsors the Federal Energy and Water Management Awards.
