NYK Cargo Vessel Rescues Two People off Guam

MV Mito, a general cargo vessel owned by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. and managed by Hachiuma Steamship Co. Ltd., rescued two people in an inflatable rubber boat in distress off the coast of Guam on July 30.While sailing from Port Kembla in Australia to Naoshima in Kagawa prefecture, Japan, the ship discovered two people in an inflatable boat in distress due to engine failure about 80 nautical miles north of Guam and immediately rescued them. The two were in good health and handed over to the United States Coast Guard off the coast of Saipan on July 31. MV Mito.

A Marshall Islands-flagged tanker helped rescue two people from the water after their boat sank in the Torres Strait.At about 7:15 a.m. AEST on Thursday, a coastal pilot on board the tanker Godam contacted Townsville Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) to report a sighting of two people clinging to a timber plank in the water.The location for the sighting was about 10 kilometers southeast of Sue Islet, Warraber Reef. USCG Rescues Two Near Beaufort

U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Corps helicopter crews rescued two people and a dog Sunday from a grounded sailboat near Beaufort. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a call at approximately 11:50 a.m. from the operator of the 22-foot sailboat Serendipity who stated the boat was grounded and being taken over by waves near the number 15 buoy in Beaufort Inlet. Sector North Carolina personnel issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City to the scene. A Marine Corps HH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crew from Air Station Cherry Point arrived on scene first and hoisted a man with a heart condition from the grounded vessel. The crew placed him in the care of awaiting EMS at Fort Macon.

MOL Bulker Rescues Two from Disabled Yacht

MOL-operated Bulk Carrier Rescues 2 from Yacht adrift off Australia.   Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced that the MOL-operated bulk carrier Yahagi Maru rescued two sailors from the yacht Mehitable, which was adrift at sea approximately 350km off Brisbane, Australia.On the morning of June 5 (local time), the Yagagi Maru, which was under way from Japan toward Newcastle, New South Wales, received an SOS from the Mehitable which was in distress about 40 miles away, they also received a request from the Australian coast guard at the same time. The Yahagi Maru immediately rushed to the site. At 14:40, the vessel rescued two people, and transferred them to the coast guard at 8:10 on Wednesday, June 6, off Brisbane.

CMF’s USS Bulkeley Frees Ship from Pirates

A request for assistance from a Japanese-owned merchant vessel in the Somali Basin led to Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) warship USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) securing the release of the vessel and its 24 crew members from four suspected pirates, Mar. Resolve Rescues Two Tankers in Texas

Resolve Salvage & Fire (Americas), Inc., a subsidiary of Resolve Marine Group, responded to two  OPA-90 client tankers offshore and in the Houston-Galveston Ship Channel in July. Resolve had responded to another tanker incident in January 2010, off Port Arthur, Texas. On July 14, 2010, Resolve successfully refloated a 22,377dwt chemical tanker, which had grounded in Galveston Bay, Texas as it lost steerage while leaving the port. The vessel was laden with approximately 15,000 metric tons of cargo including Cyclohexane and Benzene.

Cal Maritime Training Ship Rescues Two

The two men departed the area earlier that day in an open 17-ft. skiff, equipped with a single outboard engine. They told authorities they were heading for offshore fishing grounds when their engine seized up. They then radioed for help to the U.S. Coast Guard in . The Golden Bear was approximately 50 miles away at the time, heading northward on the final leg of her annual three-and-a-half-month summer training cruise to ports in the western and southern Pacific.

Coast Guard Rescues Two Off Gulfport

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew based out of New Orleans rescued two men off the Gulfport coast late Friday night. The men were on a 12-ft. aluminum skiff traveling from Bayou Caddy to Bayou Bolan when their vessel capsized. The gentlemen were reported overdue to Coast Guard Station Gulfport by a family member. The rescue helicopter launched from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and experienced heavy rain showers, strong winds, and extremely low visibility in the search area. During a break in the weather, the helicopter crew used night-vision goggles to locate the overturned vessel and the two men in the Point Clear wetlands. The helicopter crew rapidly hoisted the men and airlifted them in stable condition to Gulport-Biloxi International Airport.

Crowley Crew Rescues Two in Hurricane

The crew of Crowley marine service tug Attentive recently came to the rescue of two sailors trapped in hurricane force winds aboard the 35 ft. sloop Adana in the Gulf of Alaska. Adana crewmembers Mike Hunt and Marnee Allison were underway from Cordova to Yukatat when 75 to 100 mph winds and rough seas forced them to take cover in Port Etches on Hinchinbrook Island. Their sailboat had been dragging anchor and was in danger of running aground when they radioed the Attentive, on station nearby for crude oil tanker escort, to assist. Attentive captain Jeff Stevenson alerted the U.S. Coast Guard of the situation, and as conditions worsened, Attentive and Adana crewmembers agreed the safest course of action was to abandon the Adana.
