Meyer Werft Delivers Cruise Ship Carnival Jubilee

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced it has delivered Carnival Jubilee, the latest cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line.The 183,200 GT ship is 345.4 meters long, 42 meters wide and can accommodate 5,374 passengers in 2,626 passenger cabins, plus 1,551 crew. It has 20 decks.The RINA-classed Carnival Jubilee has a wide range of entertainment options and numerous restaurants. The highlight on the upper deck is the "Ultimate Playground" with a waterpark including large slides and the "BOLT" roller coaster.The newbuild is the first ship for Carnival Cruise Line to be built in Papenburg.

Jørgen Wisborg Named Blue Water Chairman

Jørgen Wisborg has been named chairman at Danish-headquartered transport and logistics group Blue Water, taking over from the company's founder and longtime head Kurt Skov.In September last year, Skov announced plans to find his successor, making it possible for him to slow down his work activities.Wisborg joins Blue Water after 17 years as managing director for the Danish energy company OK, where he stepped down last year to focus entirely on board positions. ASKO's Electric Self-driving Vessels Christened

Norwegian grocery distributor ASKO announced its two new full-electric, self-driving vessels have been christened.The battery-electric powered RoRo cargo ferries, named Marit and Therese, will cross the Oslo Fjord daily between Moss and Horten, mainly carrying groceries for NorgesGruppen's chains.The groundbreaking vessels, which were designed by Norwegian firm Naval Dynamics and built at Cochin Shipyard in India, are equipped with technology from Kongsberg Maritime enabling completely…

Green Yard Kleven to Refit Two Oceanica PSVs

Green Yard Kleven in Norway said it has signed a contract with Brazilian shipowner Oceanica to convert two platform supply vessels (PSV) for operations with remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROV) and offshore crane.The two ships, both Marin Teknikk MT6009 design, have recently been purchased by Oceanica. One is already at Green Yard Kleven, and the other will arrive at the shipyard in the next few days. The retrofit is scheduled to be completed toward the end of the year, and work will start immediately.After the conversion, the ships will operate in Brazil in deep water.

New Hydrogen-powered Tanker Concept Unveiled

Germany to Charter Four FSRUs in Push to Cut Reliance on Russian Gas

The German government on Thursday signed agreements for the charters of four floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), as it works to become less reliant on Russian gas, as FSRUs will enable it to import LNG from other sources.The agreements were signed for the charters of two FSRUs owned by Oslo-listed firm Hoegh LNG, and two owned by Dynagas. Hoegh LNG FSRUs will be operated by RWE, while Uniper has facilitated the charter of two FSRUs managed by Dynagas Ltd.Höegh LNG said that the detailed FSRU contracts with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action…

New Management at Aibel's Haugesund Yard

Norway;s Aibel has announced a pair of leadership appointments at its yard in Haugesund.The company said Friday that Lars Inge Hellestveit will take up the role of vice president of yard operations, joined by Hans Jørgen Alfsen as the yard's new fabrication manager. Höegh LNG CEO Støhle Resigns

Höegh LNG announced on Monday that its president and CEO Sveinung J. S. Støhle is resigning to purse a career outside of Norway.The Norwegian shipowner said Støhle gave his resignation notice on October 9 and that he will remain in his role until November 1.Thor Jørgen Guttormsen will act as interim president and CEO effective November 1 and until a permanent successor is appointed.An  LNG industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience in shipping and oil and gas, Støhle has worked for Höegh LNG since 2005. He served as director and chairman of the board of directors of Höegh LNG Partners LP since April 2014 but stepped down as a chairman when assuming the position as CEO of Höegh LNG Partners LP since August 2020.

Solstad Offshore Sells Seven Vessels for Recycling

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Solstad Offshore has sold seven vessels that have been laid up for a while for recycling."The vessels to be recycled are defined by Solstad as non-strategic, they are of older age and considered to be irrelevant for present and future markets," Solstad said.The vessels are Sea Tiger, Normand Atlantic, Normand Borg, Normand Neptun, Sea Pollock, Far Strider and Far Sovereign and will be recycled at the Green Yard Feda and Green Yard Kleven shipyards in Norway."We are pleased that we finally can start green recycling of a major number of our oldest vessels.

World's First: Drone Brings Cargo to Offshore Production Platform

Andreas Enger will replace Thor Jørgen Guttormsen as CEO of Höegh Autoliners effective September 8, 2020.Enger has served as an advisor to Höegh Autoliners for more than a year and became CFO in September 2019.Prior to joining Höegh Autoliners, he was a partner at Deloitte, leading its Nordic strategy practice. Earlier in his career Enger was a partner at McKinsey & Co and subsequently held senior executive positions at Norske Skog, PGS and Peterson Packaging. Meyer Werft Lays Keel for Iona

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has laid the keel for the British P&O Cruises’ first-ever LNG ship, which will be named Iona and be the greenest cruise ship in the UK when she debuts in May 2020.The keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft  in Papenburg marked the official start for assembling the hull of the new luxury liner for the United Kingdom. The ship will be handed over to the customer in spring 2020.The traditional keel laying coins were placed by Paul Ludlow (President P&O Cruises) together with Stephan Schmees (Executive Board Member Project Management) Meyer Werft  und Jürgen Storz (Project Leader Meyer Werft).Block 1B measures 21.5 m in length, 19.4 m in width and 9.8 m in height.

Japanese LNG Carriers Pact with Wärtsilä

Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has signed long-term service agreements for four Japanese-owned LNG carriers.Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning (DMP) proposition with performance guarantees is recognised as adding considerable value to the customers’ operations.Two of the vessels are owned by a joint venture between Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and JERA Co., Inc. (JERA), the Tokyo based energy company, while the other two are owned by a joint-venture between Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and JERA. RENOLIT Put to the test on Pilot Boat

Renolit Maritime coated one of a total of eleven new vessels ordered by the Danish State Pilot Service, DanPilot. The other 10 vessels were given a conventional anti-fouling paint coating. A series of tests will be performed in the coming months in which the pilot vessels will be compared to each other, particularly with regard to their fuel efficiency.The eleven identical vessels were built for DanPilot by the Baltic Workboat shipyard. In June 2018, RENOLIT presented its RENOLIT DOLPHIN S film solution to the technical directors of DanPilot.
