Zeaborn: 100 vessels to be EU Hazardous Compliant

Germanyā€™s Zeaborn Ship Management has contracted Verifavia Shipping and the Korean Register (KR) to perform inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) preparation and certification for over 100 vessels.The vessels are managed by Zeaborn Ship Management, a consolidation of E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers Shipmanagement, and must be IHM compliant to meet the terms of the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) and the Hong Kong (HK) International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.The HK Convention is aimed at reducing the negative impact of ship recycling on human health and safety, and on the environment. Verifavia Shipping Leads in EU MRV and IMO DCS IT System Certification

Verifavia Shipping claimed success in the independent certification of IT systems and solutions designed to support compliance with the International Maritime Organisationā€™s (IMO) Data Collection System (DCS) regulation and European Union (EU) Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV).With both regulations now in force, increasing numbers of IT systems are available to assist ship owners and operators in collating and reporting emissions data, all of which need to strictly adhere to the relevant legal requirements."More than 30 of these systems have now been certified or are currently undergoing certification by Verifavia," the emissions verification company for the transport sector (aviation and shipping) said in a press release.According to the releaseā€¦

ZEABORN Combines E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers

The ZEABORN Group announced it has combined its two recently acquired Hamburg-based ship management companies to form one global brand, ZEABORN Ship Management GmbH & Cie. Container Industry Competence Standard Launched

Seagull Maritime AS has launched the Container Industry Competence Standard (CICS), an assessment and training system covering container vessel operations. The program aims to bring new consistency to competency on-board containerships, following a similar breakthrough from Seagull in the dry bulk sector last year, and earlier competence management system developments for the tanker industry. CICS has drawn on cooperation with Rickmers Shipmanagement GmbH, which offered key insights into cargo handling competencies specific to container vessel operations. The program has already been piloted and is now available for all container operators.

Iran Releases Seized Cargo Ship

Iran released a Marshall-Islands flagged container ship Maersk Tigris and its crew has been released by Iranian authorities after the cargo company that owns it resolved a financial dispute which had been the subject of a court order. ā€œThe Maersk container ship was released and it has left Iranian territorial waters,ā€ Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham. It will now continue its scheduled voyage to Jebel Ali, in the United Arab Emirates, where it will be met by representatives from Rickmers and others. The Maersk incident coincided with heightened tension between regional arch-rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia over the civil war in Yemen, in which they support opposing sides.

Maersk to Pay for Release of Seized Ship?

There have been reports that members of the crew of the cargo ship Maersk Tigris that had been detained by Iranian authorities, have been released Wednesday. The statement was made by the Iranian Foreign Ministryā€™s Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham, as quoted by AFP information agency. She noted that all people on board are in ā€˜ā€™good healthā€™ā€™ and can receive counselor services immediately if needed. Ms Afkhim added that the ship could be immediately released if ā€˜ā€™its overdue debt is settledā€™ā€™. But Maersk Line and Rickmers Shipmanagement have both denied reports that Maersk Tigris has been released. The crew members remain onboard the vessel for the time being.

Rickmers Representative Boards Seized Containership

Rickmers Group reports that a representative of its company today has been allowed to board the seized container vessel Maersk Tigris, following an urgent request to Iranian authorities. The seized ship, managed by Rickmers Shipmanagement (Singapore), has a crew of 24 seafarers. The Rickmers representative has been able to establish that all seafarers are safe and on board the vessel. Given the current circumstances they are all in a good condition, the shipā€™s manager said. Maersk Tigris was seized by the Iranian Navy on Tuesday April 28 and has since been under control of the authorities. Iranian officials said the seizure is related to a cargo dispute with Maersk Line, the charterers of the vessel, which dates back to 2005.

Iran Says Respects Navigation Freedom, Day After Ship is Seized

Iran's foreign minister told an audience in New York City on Wednesday that Tehran respects freedom of navigation in the Gulf, a day after Iranian patrol boats seized a Danish container ship in one of the world's busiest oil shipping lanes. "The Persian Gulf is our lifeline ... We will respect international navigation," Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said during a discussion hosted by the New York University Center on International Cooperation and the think tank New America. Danish shipping company Maersk said the crew of the Maersk Tigris was safe and "in good spirits." Iranian authorities seized the vessel in the Straight of Hormuz on Tuesday, spurring the United States to send military vessels to monitor the situation.

Maersk Tigris Manager Liaising with Authorities

Rickmers Shipmanagement, managers of containership Maersk Tigris, which was yesterday approached, fired upon and boarded by the Iranian Navy in the Persian Gulf, issued a statement addressing the incident. Rickmers Shipmanagement said it informed relevant international authorities immediately after being attended, adding that it takes its responsibilities as an international shipping line very seriously, complying with all applicable laws and regulations and ensuring that employees are aware of those laws relevant to their roles. The shipā€™s manager is liaising with the relevant international authorities, and continues to monitor the vessel's position at the same time seeking communications with the crew.

Iran Seizes Cargo Ship

Iran seized a Western commercial cargo ship in the Persian Gulf early Tuesday and ordered it to sail into Iranian territorial waters. Pentagon says MV Maersk Tigris, which was thought to have entered Iranian waters, was intercepted by Iranian vessel ā€“ but did not belong to US. Warning shots were fired but no injuries were reported, a shipping agency said. Thirty-four crew members were reported aboard. There are no Americans in the crew of more than 30 aboard the container ship Maersk Tigris, defense officials said, and the vessel is registered in the Marshall Islands. The Iranian navy seized the ship at the request of the Iran Ports Authority under a court order, according to the English service of Iran's Fars News Agency.

Ship Management Says Concerned for Crew After Iran Fires Shots

Rickmers Shipmanagement, the Singapore-based company that has chartered the Maersk Tigris, said Iranian officials fired warning shots at the container ship and boarded it on Tuesday.   Spokesman Cor Radings told Danish TV2 news channel the company was concerned for the 24 crew members on board, most of whom come from Eastern Europe and Asia.   He said the vessel was running along a normal commercial route between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and that the company did not yet know why Iran had stopped it.     (Reporting by Sabina Zawadzki; Editing by Janet Lawrence)

Container Shippers Join Forces for Safety

The Container Ship Safety Forum (CSSF) has been launched as a global business-to-business network that aims to improve safety performance and management practices in the container shipping industry. Founding members CMA CGM Group, Costamare Shipping Company S.A., E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH & Cie. KG, Hamburg Südamerikanische Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft KG, Maersk Line, Rickmers Shipmanagement and Zodiac Maritime Agencies Ltd., have joined forces to improve safety performance through collaboration.

Rickmers Shipmanagement Achieves ISO 50001 Certification

Rickmers becomes the first German company operating in the maritime industry and one of only a handful of shipping companies in the world to achieve certification to the ISO 50001 Energy Management System standard. Rickmers Shipmanagement received the accredited ISO 50001 certification from GL Systems Certification (GL) for its offices in Hamburg and Singapore, as well as for ten ships from its fleet. The handover of the certificates took place at the Rickmers head office in Hamburg on the 10th of January 2013. All audits were completed successfully in 2012 by GL auditors, with plans in place to add nine more ships in early 2013. ISOā€¦

Rickmers-Linie Contract Chinese Shipbuilder

Rickmers-Linie is to take delivery of two 20,000dwt multi-purpose/heavy-lift newbuildings in 2015, to be built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China. Both of these multi-purpose vessels will be equipped with two 450-tonne cranes and one 120-tonne crane. The two main cranes will enable them to load up to 900 tonnes in a single lift. Construction supervision and technical management will be the responsibility of Rickmers Shipmanagement while asset and commercial management will be undertaken by Rickmers Reederei. Even for Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the worldā€™s largest shipyard group, it was a remarkable occasion. In a quadruple naming ceremony at HHIā€™s Ulsan shipyard on July 2, Rickmers Group christened four ultra-large container ships (ULCS) of 13,100 TEU each. Each of the four ships, Pearl Rickmers, Ruby Rickmers, Aqua Rickmers and Coconee Rickmers, has a service speed of 24.3 knots. They have been chartered longterm to Maersk Line and will join Maerskā€™s ā€œE-classā€ as Maersk Edinburgh, Maersk Emden, Maersk Eindhoven and Maersk Essen.

Rickmers Group Celebrates Vessel Naming

The Rickmers Group celebrated the naming of the latest addition to its fleet, the 4250-TEU container vessel Marte Rickmers. Marte von Have, wife of lawyer Harro von Have from Hamburg, acted as the sponsor of the vessel. The naming ceremony took place in the presence of more than 100 guests, business partners of the Rickmers Group, customers of Rickmers-Linie and representatives from the shipyard. Under the terms of an eight-year time charter agreement with the French operator CMA CGM, the ship will operate under the name CMA CGM Azure. It will be employed initially in the French companyâā‚¬ā„¢s liner service between the Far East and the Mediterranean. Marte Rickmers is the third vessel out of a series of 21 ordered from Dalian by Rickmers Group. With a length of 802 ft.
