Dutch Combat Support Ship Takes Shape at Damen Galati

Damen Shipyards Galati performed the traditional keel-laying ceremony on June 2, 2021, for the Combat Support Ship (CSS) Den Helder for the Royal Netherlands Navy.The yard carried out the steel cutting for this new vessel in December last year, and following the keel-laying, all the building blocks for the actual construction of the ship in Romania are now ready. The next ceremonial milestone is the naming of the vessel, but not before the building of the ship is completed in 2023.

Dutch to Build Combat Support Ship

BWTS Refit for Netherlands Naval Vessels

The Defense Material Organization has awarded three contracts to Goltens Worldwide’s Green Technologies business unit for the engineering and turnkey installation of sixteen Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) on 10 Naval vessels. An official signing ceremony was held May 25 at the Defense Material Organization in The Hague whereby Captain RNLN J. F. Kwak, Head Projects Procurement Division, officially signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry of Defense. M. C. Jeronimus, Vice President of Goltens Europe, signed on behalf of Goltens Green Technologies.

Damen Bags Maintenance Deal with Dutch, Swedish Navies

The Damen Shipyards Group informs it has signed a contract with the Dutch and Swedish Ministries of Defense for a seven-year, in-service maintenance contract covering a total of five tugs, all of which were purchased from Damen. The agreement with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) covers three Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tugs. Two of these, the Noordzee and Waddenzee, were delivered in February and April respectively. The third, named the Zuiderzee, is due for delivery in June. Their maintenance will be provided by the nearby Damen Shipyards Den Helder.

Damen Delivers Hybrid Tug to Netherlands Navy

The first of a series of three ASD TUGs 2810 Hybrid was navigated into the Den Helder harbor by the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) on Saturday, February 20. This hybrid tug that bears the name Noordzee is almost 29 meters long and is the first standard hybrid tug supplied by Damen that the RNLN will employ. At this time, the RNLN has four conventional tugs in Den Helder at its disposal. However, these older vessels do not have sufficient power to tug new ships such as the HNLMS Karel Doorman, HNLMS Rotterdam and the HNLMS Johan de Witt.

Damen to Refit RNLN Torpedo Ship

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion has won the contract for the life-prolonging maintenance and refit project of the Royal Netherlands Navy torpedo ship Zr Ms Mercuur. The ship, originally built at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in 1987, will be refit to make her suitable for a range of new tasks and assignments. The aim of the maintenance project is to keep the ship operational until 2025. The bridge layout will be reconfigured with new communications equipment. Furthermore, the bow will be reinforced and several areas will receive a ‘facelift’ – for example, a completely new and fully equipped kitchen will be installed. Dutch, Swedish Defense Place Cooperative Tugboat Order

The Defense Material Organization of the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) has contracted Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of five Harbor and Seagoing tugs. The contract has been made in cooperation with its Swedish counterpart: Swedish Försvarets Materielverk (FMV). Responding to current and future developments in emission reduction and environmentally friendly shipping, the RNLN has opted for a new Damen design: the ASD Tug 2810 Hybrid. The FMV has opted for another fit-for-purpose design: the ice-classed ASD Tug 3010 ICE.

Hydroid REMUS AUV Helps Find WWI U-boat

Stratos Deploys FleetBroadband for the Royal Netherlands Navy

The trial led to the RNLN's purchase of the FleetBroadband from Stratos service, which it will use to manage its daily operations at sea. RNLN is the first organization to commercially deploy the FleetBroadband service. The three-month field trial was conducted onboard the RNLN Van Kinsbergen in Western European waters, including the Western Baltic. Radio managed the installation of a Thrane & Thrane SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband terminal onboard the vessel. FleetBroadband also was successfully integrated with AmosConnect to manage all email traffic. Other applications successfully tested during the trial included web browsing, instant messaging, video chat, digital faxing via eFax, and weather forecasting via MeteoConsult's SPOS.
