Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) recently completed technical acceptance of a new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug from Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey. Turkey-based builder Sanmar Shipyard is building multipurpose vessel,  the first of a brand based on the Robert Allan Limited RAlly 1900 SX design and called Poyrazköy Class, for Duzgit Company.The new series vessel is named Salim Duzgit after the founder of its new owners of Duzgit.This is a different type of vessel to the usual and well-established product normally associated with the collaboration between Sanmar and the Canadian naval architects which typically concentrates on a broad portfolio of ASD and tractor tugs.Significantly most of the fruits of this cooperation are destined for international customers, whereas this vessel…

Turkey’s leading tug builder Sanmar Shipyards was selected by Caterpillar Marine to build the first tug to incorporate its hydraulic hybrid propulsion system. Construction is currently under way with delivery scheduled for October 2019. Island Raider, the newest articulating tug in Island Tug and Barge’s (ITB) fleet, was christened September 28, during an afternoon ceremony at ITB’s headquarters in Burnaby, B.C.The new vessel is first of two in a series built by on-site at ITB’s Annacis Island facility along the Fraser River. The Island Raider, along with its sister the Island Regent (delivery February, 2019), was designed by renown Robert Allan Limited naval architects and marine engineers of Vancouver, B.C. to be paired with ITB’s double-hulled oil tank barge, the ITB Resolution, as an articulated tug and barge (ATB).

The delivery of Svitzer Avon to the Port of Bristol in the U.K. signals the completion of Sanmar's six boat build contract as part of Svitzer's tugboat replenishment program known as the Silver Bullet Project. The conclusion of this order brings the collaboration between the Turkish tug builder and Canadian tug design specialist Robert Allan Limited (RAL) to a number in excess of 150 vessels. All six of Svitzer’s new high performance tugboats are RAL designed RAstar 2800 E designs designated by the builder as the Sanmar Terminal Class measuring 28.2m x 12.6m.

Svitzer Americas’ newest vessels Svitzer Monte Cristi and Svitzer Catuan have been delivered by Turkish tug builder Sanmar. Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey said it is in the process of shipping a Robert Allan Limited designed Rascal Class ASD tugboat to Port Otago Limited (POL) in New Zealand. The new tug, Arihi, named in consultation with the local Rununga (Maori council), measures 18 m long, has a bollard pull of 30 t and was completed in less than five months from date of order. In March 2015, Sanmar signed a contract with the Port of Fujairah for the construction of three 70 metric ton bollard pull RAmparts 2400SX tugs. The ceremony took place in Fujairah in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saleh  Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman, Department of Industry and Economy, Government of Fujairah. The first vessel M/T Jabal Yabsa, which is the 16th vessel of its well proven class, has now made her way to Fujairah and begun operations. The tug measures 24.4 meters in length with a molded beam of 11.25 meters and an overall draft of 5.87 meters.

The delivery of tug Civitavecchia to the Italian tugboat operator Italtugs for its operation at a Sicilian oil terminal represents another milestone in the tchnical cooperation between Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey and the Canadian naval architects, Robert Allan Limited. Combining Sanmar’s experience as an international tugboat operator with RAL’s design expertise has resulted in some 150 vessels being built at either of the former’s custom-built shipyards. Now, this latest delivery is the first vessel of the Ulucay Class which is based on the RAstar 3200W design.

Sanmar deliver the tugboat 'Ulupinar 14' to its owner, UK's SMS Towage, after a 6-month charter. Some 15 of this exclusive and versatile ASD model designed by the Robert Allan Limited team with considerable input from Ali Gurun, project director at Sanmar, have now been built. However, Ulupinar 14, although having been completed back in July 2012, has only just been handed over to its new owners, the UK’s SMS Towage with the new name of Statesman. The vessel had spent the intervening six months on a successful charter with Egyptian interests.

Eight new Z-Tech tugboats are in store for the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) to bolster Canal capacity and provide enhanced towing power. As the number of Panamax size vessel transits increase, the new, more powerful tugboats will provide 82 percent more towing power to navigate these larger vessels. The new tugboats will replace eight of the Canal's current fleet of 24. Three of the new tugboats are scheduled to be delivered in December 2006 and five in January 2008. Commissioned by PSA Marine, the new tugboats were designed by Robert Allan Limited. Representing a breakthrough in tug technology, the Z-Tech, as the new design has been named, combines both the handling of a tractor-style tug and an Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tug. Each Z-Tech tug measures 89 ft. in length overall and 37 ft.
