Swiss based marine engine technology developer WinGD has expanded its global training network through a partnership with DCS POWER PTE LTD in Singapore to deliver training for optimizing engine performance and preparing crews for the fuels of the future.Located in Singapore, the new training partnership was commemorated on February 22. Preparing crews for the new future-fuel ready vessels will be delivered through a variety of both virtual and classroom-based training courses.

The Caribbean shipyard Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) worked on 49 commercial vessels and 20 cruise ships throughout 2016, with scope of works ranging from major steel fabrication and repairs, to engine and technical systems overhauls, hull treatment and tank cleanings. And looking to 2017 and beyond, the yard reports it has a healthy order book, with docking periods secured as far ahead as three years. VShips USA brought two bulk carriers, CSL Acadian and CSL Argosy, to GBSL to do tank cleaning on both vessels. CSL Acadian also received extensive pipe work.

After 8 months  maintenance and improvements to prepare the vessel for future service, charitable ship 'Logos Hope' sets sail from Subic Bay, Philippines. We need marine engineering officers and other maintenance engineers to continue operating and maintaining the vessel says OM Ships. The vessel is currently in dry dock in Subic Bay until early August and will be unable to sail after September without a longer-term chief engineer. Short-term chief engineers have filled the role on a temporary basis over recent months, but more consistent leadership is needed to oversee the operation of vessel systems and maintenance work on machinery.

International fluid handling specialist Hamworthy is to open a new dedicated service centre in Brazil. The new service center represents a direct investment in a market that has offered sustained growth for the company’s oil and gas handling systems and pump systems businesses in recent years. With offices in Rio and planned workshops and warehousing operations in Macae  it will support customers through easy access to spare parts from a domestic warehouse and qualified service personnel for all Hamworthy products, as well as related products and equipment installed onboard. The service centre will also offer assistance to domestic yards during the installation and commission stages of construction.

Hamworthy has won a contract to supply pump room systems for 11 vessels to be delivered to the China Shipping Group (CSG). The first three systems are destined for installation on three CSG 112,000 dwt aframax newbuildings, to be constructed at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC). The remaining eight systems are to be supplied to product carriers being built at Guangzhou Shipyard International, (GSI). All 11 systems include three cargo pumps and two ballast pumps, which have been cast at Hamworthy’s manufacturing plant in Singapore in superior Ni-Al-Bronze material.

Fluid-handling specialist Hamworthy has signed a contract with marine equipment purchaser Hua Hai Engineering & Equipment Co., Ltd to deliver pump room systems for installation on four very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to be constructed in China. The ships, which will be built for CSC Nanjing Tanker Co., Ltd (NJTC) at Guangzhou Longxue Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, follow on from 10 previous VLCCs contracted by the same owner at Jiangnan Shipyard and Bohai Shipyard, all of which are being equipped with pump room systems from Hamworthy. “This contract was won due to the proven technical ability of our equipment on previously built VLCCs,” said Terje Bjornemo, Hamworthy Pump Room Systems Sales Director.

Hamworthy Oil & Gas Systems was recently awarded a major contract by Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Promar SA for the design and supply of cargo handling systems for eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers destined for operation by Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras. The vessels will be designed by Hamworthy’s specialist naval architecture consultancy in Poland, along with the cargo tanks and cargo handling system. In 2007 the Oil & Gas Systems business secured an order for its regasification technology onboard the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) Golar Winter. Located in Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, the vessel has an important role in supplying gas to the Rio de Janeiro area.

K Line established K Line Maritime Academy (Philippines) at Pasay City in The Philippines, and Opening Ceremony was held on February 22, 2008 at the Academy with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and many delegations from The Philippine Government, Seafarers Educational Institution and other related interests in attendance. The Academy is the key facility of KLMA and each training course will be carried out in accordance K Line's fundamental philosophy that fosters the development of K Line Seafarers regardless of nationality by using KLMA Basic Training Matrix and Syllabus. As for navigation officers, the Academy will conduct training for prevention of ship collision and grounding in congested waters and narrow straits, using the new ship handling simulator.

The hull of the P-53 arrived off the coast of Rio Grande (state of Rio Grande do Sul) on September 4 and was berthed to the QUIP´s Quay (Port of Rio Grande) on September 20, according to Petrobras. Hundreds of people, among whom Rio Grande and neighboring town residents, witnessed the vessel's arrival. For safety reasons, the local power utility, the Companhia Estadual de Energia Elétrica (CEEE), interrupted power supply to the city of São José do Norte during the P-53's passage under the aerial cables that supply the town.
