GB Railfreight Launches New Intermodal Service from Felixstowe Port

The rail freight company in the United Kingdom, GB Railfreight has launched a new intermodal rail freight service connecting the Port of Felixstowe with the Birch Coppice terminal in the Midlands.The first locomotive on the service left Birch Coppice at 14:14 on 23 January 2019 and arrived at Felixstowe at 20:14, having passed through Hams Hall, Leicester, Peterborough and Ipswich along the way. Made up of 33 platforms, the service transports a mixture of intermodal containers, and will initially run 5 days a week.Commenting on the new service, Clemence Cheng, Chief Executive Officer at the Port of Felixstowe and Executive Director of Hutchison Ports, said: "We are delighted to welcome this latest service offering from GB Railfreight.

Orsted Contracts EEW OSB to Supply Offshore Wind Components

EEW OSB, a Teesside facility that manufactures transition pieces (TPs) used in offshore wind farms, is entering the international market thanks to multiple contracts with Ørsted, the global offshore wind company.The multi-million pound contract announced by Ørsted today is for 35 TPs for Dutch offshore wind farm, Borssele 1 + 2, and represents EEW OSB’s first ever export order. Orkot Marine Bearings, developed and manufactured by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, contribute to the build of one of the world’s most efficient and largest containerships, the Maersk Triple E class family, built by Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding. Orkot TXMM and TLMM bearings were developed to meet the requirements of ever changing markets. The synthetic composite bearing materials incorporate solid lubricants to provide exceptional wear resistance, virtually no swell in water and great dimensional stability, the manufacturer said.

Martek Meets Unique FSRU Emissions Monitoring Challenge

Martek Marine has delivered what it describes as the most sophisticated emissions monitoring system ever built for marine use to Daewoo for the world’s largest Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). The 173,400m3 vessel, which can also function as an LNG carrier, is due for delivery in May 2014 when it will be deployed in Brazil. The suppliers say that the system is so unique that no other company was even willing to quote for the project, but that their expertise in emissions monitoring allowed them to build and deliver the complex system. The equipment monitors (Nitrogen Oxide) NOx, Sulphur Oxide (SOx), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon (CO) and Methane (CH4); Total Hydrocarbons; Non Methane Hydrocarbons; Benzene; Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and particulates.

Martek Lands BNWAS deal for V.Ships’ Fleet

Martek Marine has secured a contract to supply its Navgard Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) to Seacom Electronics, the UK subsidiary of global ship management services giant V.Ships. Southampton-headquartered Seacom has placed an initial order for a Navgard BNWAS compliance package comprising a Navgard panel with two weatherproof external resets, an internal reset, three cabin alarms and four high intensity audio visual alarms. Martek will also deliver items including an illuminated push-button reset for the bridge, a bridge wing reset button, officer cabin alarm and a high intensity corridor audio-visual alarm. The initial contract is expected to be followed by orders for further packages to be installed on V.Ships’ vessels during the next three years.
