Port of Mobile Reports Record Growth

Containerized cargo volumes through Alabama's Port of Mobile continue to climb in 2021 as shippers seek uncongested gateways servicing key North American markets. In August, container volumes increased 34% over August 2020 volume, while year-to-date volume posted 27% over the same period last year, the port said Thursday, attributing part of that success to a 37% increase in refrigerated containers due to nearly $74 million in refrigerated facilities investment at the port to support cold cargo supply chains.

Salalah Ports Sets Productivity Record

With an annual capacity of around 5 million TEU, the Port of Salalah set a new productivity record this month, delivering 412.97 Port Moves per Hour (PMPH) on vessel Cap San Tainaro. The Port handled 3,820 moves in a port stay of 9.25 hours.Oman’s major regional gateway port and transshipment hub, located on the Arabian Sea has recorded the highest productivity ever achieved in the region. Second Delivery of Cranes Arrives in APM Terminals Moin

With this latest delivery of cranes, the APM Terminals Moin remains on schedule for completion in February 2019, when it is expected to raise commerce in Costa Rica by 23% according to Qbis Socioeconomic Impact Study. This second delivery of Ship-to-Shore and Electric Rubber-Tire Gantry Cranes (ERTGs) to APM Terminals Moin, Costa Rica brings the total on site to six and 23 respectively. Long Beach Port Launches Zero-Emissions Project

Officials from the Port of Long Beach, Southern California Edison and the California Energy Commission today launched the nation’s largest pilot project for zero-emissions cranes and other cargo-handling equipment for seaports. Funded mostly by a $9.7 million grant from the California Energy Commission, the project will bring 25 vehicles that are zero- or near zero-emissions to Port of Long Beach marine terminals for one year to test their performance in a real-world setting. The launch event was held at Pacific Container Terminal at Long Beach’s Pier J — operated by SSA Terminals — one of three terminals participating in the project.

LA, Long Beach Ports Unveil Strategies to Cut GHG

Aggressively deploying zero and near-zero emission trucks and cargo-handling equipment and expanding programs that reduce ship emissions are among the core strategies the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are proposing for the next version of San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP). Proposals also focus on freight infrastructure investment, innovation and technology to improve supply chain efficiency, comprehensive energy planning, and increased advocacy for stricter emissions standards and government incentives to help pay for projects that advance testing and commercialization of zero and near-zero emission vehicles. The updated CAAP provides one of California’s first opportunities to implement the vision laid out in the State’s Sustainable Freight Action Plan.

Port of New Orleans Reports Cargo Surge

More containers moved through the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal at the Port of New Orleans in March and April 2016 than in any two months in the port’s history. According to figures released this week, 50,974 twenty-foot-equivalent units moved through the Terminal in April, besting the previous monthly record of 48,594 TEUs in March of 2016. The two-month total of 99,568 TEUs is up 6.1 percent, compared to same two months in 2015. Surging container volumes come on the heels of higher overall cargo volumes in 2015.

Virginia Port Volume Up 24%

The Port of Virginia in February processed 220,726 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a 24 percent increase when compared with February 2015. “Last February’s volumes were affected by several snowstorms, but it is important to note that the strength of our increase was far greater than the impact of last year’s weather,” said John F. Reinhart, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. In February, the port saw increases in rail volume, up 51 percent; truck volume, up 12 percent; and ship calls, up 10 percent. The new rubber-tire gantry cranes that were delivered in early January were placed into service in February and helped to build throughput at the rail operations at VIG and Norfolk International Terminals.

CMA CGM - Adani Mundra Terminal Gets New Cranes

The first set of seven new Terminal Equipment which includes 4 QUAY and 3 RTG Cranes for its new Adani CMA Mundra Terminal ( ACMT) has reached Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone. ACMT is an equal joint venture with French container line CMA CGM SA and  Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s biggest private port operator —the fourth—at Mundra port in Gujarat. The equipment was brought in by ZPMC vessel ZHEN HUA25 its unloading took six days. The four  RMQC super post-Panamax rail-mounted quay cranes are with twin-lift capability and three rubber-tire gantry cranes that will allow the port to handle its increasing throughput at a time of weak demand. ACMT, the fourth container facility at Mundra Port, is expected to start operations in the first half of next year.

APM Terminals Izmir Set for Opening

With the delivery of five Rubber-Tire Gantry Cranes (RTGs) and two Ship-to-Shore (STS) gantry cranes capable of handling Ultra-Large Containerships (ULCS) of up to 16,000 TEU capacity, the new 1.3 million TEU deep-water APM Terminals Izmir facility is nearing completion in anticipation of beginning commercial operations in early 2016. One more STS crane and five additional RTGs are scheduled to arrive in December, bringing the container handling equipment complement to three ULCS-ready STS cranes and 10 technologically advanced RTGs. APM Terminals Furthers Equipment Investment

APM Terminals placed an order for 16 new advanced Rubber-Tire Gantry cranes (RTGs) as part of an ongoing program of upgrading and expanding container handling capabilities and capacities throughout the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network. Twelve of the high-performance RTGs are scheduled for delivery to APM Terminals Algeciras, in Spain, while the remaining four are destined for APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria, with delivery in one year. The new 16-wheeled RTGs, to be manufactured by Konecranes, will offer a lifting capacity of 41 tons, and the ability to maneuver containers into stacks five containers high. APM Terminals Named Nigeria's 'Best of the Year'

APM Terminals Apapa named “Best Terminal Operator of the Year” at Nigerian Maritime Excellence Awards in Apapa, Nigeria. Georgia’s Ports Report Growth

Doug J. Marchand, Executive Director of the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), released tonnage and volume reports reflecting a strong start to fiscal year 2008 during a meeting of its board of directors. He cited tonnage growth of 26.9 percent, or 2.1 million tons in August, and a 26.7 percent growth in July, for a total increase of 910,00 tons. Port of Savannah handled 236,020 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit containers (TEUs) for August, a 30.1-percent increase and a combined 467,711 TEUs for the first two months of the fiscal year. The Authority reported 28.5-percent increase in TEUs for the fiscal year to date. Marchand also indicated the Authority would bring an additional 14 Rubber Tire Gantry Cranes on-line in FY08…

APM Terminals Opens in VA

APM Terminals Virginia officially opened its new $450m, 291-acre container terminal (on 576 acres of land) to serve customers in the Hampton Roads region. This maritime center, the third-largest container terminal in the United States, is capable of handling 1 million twenty- foot-equivalent units (TEU) annually and has the potential to expand to handle a capacity of more than 2 million TEU. The terminal will serve as an economic engine for new business in the region. New technology at the terminal is designed to keep workers and drivers safe, while expediting cargo movement through use of the newest, most advanced handling equipment. The highly efficient, “green design” of the facility incorporates energy-saving and emissions-conscious technology into the equipment and the terminal.
