Houston-based energy company Cheniere Energy said that it is nearing completion of its fourth liquefied natural gas unit at its massive Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana near the Texas border. The company, primarily engaged in LNG-related businesses, owns and operates the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana. "Our long-term contract with Gas Natural Fenosa commenced and first LNG production occurred from Train 4 at Sabine Pass," said Jack Fusco, Cheniere's President and CEO. "We are revising our 2017 guidance upward as our operating results year-to-date have exceeded our expectations, primarily due to LNG trains entering service ahead of schedule and the ramp-up in LNG production levels occurring faster than we'd forecast earlier this year.

The U.S. Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone on the navigable waters of the Sabine River in Orange, TX in support of Deep South Racing Association (DSRA) boat races, with effect between 8.30am and 6.00pm from 31 May through 1 June. The temporary safety zone is necessary to protect the surrounding public and vessels from the hazards associated with a boat race competition. A new Texas Tidal Inlet Protection Strategies (TIPS) program, being developed by researchers at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will soon be in place to protect our state’s sensitive bays and estuaries from the potential harm of offshore oil spills. The bays and estuaries of the Texas coast serve as nurseries for several species of marine organisms including sport fish. These estuaries are connected to the Gulf of Mexico through various inlets. An oil spill in any of these sensitive habitats has the potential to kill fish and even shut down popular tourist areas.

Gordie Keenan, Higman's vice president of training told MarineNews in January, “We have 54 inland towboats, the majority of which are rated at 2,000 horse power, and 116 inland tank barges. Today our vessels are bigger with more horsepower, pushing more barrels, than ten years ago.” The company carries a myriad of crude oils and refined products for its clients on a fleet of barges and inland towboats that has doubled in number over the last ten years.

Coste, commanding the Revenue cutter Campbell, was dispatched. He reported that the first addition to aids to navigation on this entire coast should be at Egmont Key, Tampa Bay. Rowan Companies Inc. will pay $9m in penalties and add a corporate environmental division under a plea agreement in which it admitted the routine discharge of pollutants and garbage into the Gulf of Mexico from one of its drilling rigs, the Justice Department recently announced. Rowan pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Beaumont, Texas, to three felonies in connection with the dumping of waste hydraulic oil mixed with water, used paint, paint cans, and other trash from Rig Midland from 2002 to 2004.
