With the aim to improve efficiency and quality of the service offered to you, Hapag-Lloyd is pleased to advise some important changes to the GS1 service. MSC will join the service as a vessel operator providing one vessel. The total fleet size remains at eight 5500 TEU vessels with NYK operating one vessel and Hapag-Lloyd providing six vessels. Port of Suape, Brazil will be removed. Port of Sepetiba, Brazil will replace the port of Rio De Janeiro.

In view of continuous poor trading conditions and replacing its current service set up, effective from mid January 2012 Hamburg Süd and MSC will restructure their services between the Mediterranean and South America East Coast. The two currently separate services will be fused into one common service that will be operated by eight vessels of 5,900 TEU nominal capacity. Of those, Hamburg Süd is to provide initially one vessel and MSC seven vessels. Valencia – Gioia Tauro – Livorno – Genoa – Fos – Barcelona – Valencia – Suape – Rio de Janeiro – Santos – Buenos Aires – Montevideo –Rio Grande – Navegantes – Itapoá – Santos – Rio de Janeiro –  Suape – Tangier – Valencia.

Famous Pacific Shipping (FPS) Rotterdam has increased its South American oceanfreight connections with the launch of a new fortnightly consolidation service to Cartagena, Colombia. This service adds to FPS Rotterdam’s existing services to Santos, Buenos Aires, Callao, Valparaiso and Colon. This new direct fortnightly oceanfreight forwarding service between Rotterdam and Cartagena can handle FCL and LCL shipments and has been developed in connection with FPS Rotterdam’s new partner, MSL Colombia. Jean Paul van Munster, managing director of FPS Rotterdam, said “We are building on our strong and successful network from Rotterdam to South America serving five ports by adding a sixth destination.

Due to deteriorating market conditions, Hamburg Süd has decided to reduce capacity in the trade between the Mediterranean and the East Coast of South America with immediate effect. This rationalisation will be achieved by combining the present two string operation into one weekly service. Total nominal capacity will be reduced by 1,700 TEU per week which should result in a more adequate balance between supply and demand. Valencia - Tarragona - Barcelona - Livorno - Vado Ligure - Malta - Dakar - Rio de Janeiro - Santos - Buenos Aires - Montevideo - Rio Grande  - Paranagua - Santos - Rio de Janeiro - Pecem - Valencia. The new service configuration which will start as from the second week of March will provide for the most complete and comprehensive coverage in the trade.

On the first trip of the new South America service SAFRAN, the CMA CGM Violet put in to Hamburg on 03 December 2008. Loading and unloading was carried out at the Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA). Built in 2006 at South Korea's Hyundai Mipo dockyard, the French shipping company's container vessel is 222 metres in length and 30 metres wide, and has a container slot capacity of 2800 TEU as well as 590 reefer connections. When fully loaded (39,400 DWT), the ship reaches a maximum draught of 12 metres.

TMM Lines has taken delivery of the 3,200teu TMM Guanajuato. It was built by China Shipbuilding Corporation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.The TMM Guanajuato is a sister ship of the TMM Colima which was delivered to the line in October. A third sister ship, the TMM Yucatan, is due for delivery in January 2003.The new ships are all part of the TMM Lines strategy to constantly upgrade its equipment, especially its container and ship fleets. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced the start of a new service linking the East Coast of South America with the Mediterranean commencing January 10, 2003. MSC will offer a dedicated directs service to and from the major ports on the East Coast of South America to ports in the Mediterranean. Additionally, the company will enhance its port coverage in Brazil with direct calls at Itajai and Parangua. A string of 6 vessels with capacities averaging 4,500 TEUs will be deployed in this dedicated service. The port rotation for these ships will be as follows: La Spezia, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Las Palmas, Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Buenos Aires, Paranagua, Itajai, Rio de Janeiro, Vitoria, Las Palmas and Lisbon.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will enhance its East Coast South America and Caribbean services this month by introducing a new Argentina Express and an Amazonia Express service in addition to its weekly service from the ports of Charleston, Houston, Jacksonville to South America via Freeport, Bahamas, and new all-water service to Caribbean ports from Miami and New Orleans. “MSC will offer an all water service from Miami and New Orleans for the first time to a select number of ports in South America, meaning improved transit times and more space available for shipments,” said Nicola Arena, president of MSC (USA) Inc.
