Stena Line Announces Job Cuts Due to COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll on Swdish ferry company Stena Line, who announced Monday that it will cut 950 jobs due to a sharp decline in passenger travel bookings as a result of the outbreak.Stena Line said the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and subsequent travel restrictions imposed by several countries have weighed heavily on bookings, with passenger traffic to Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Germany and Latvia mostly halted. Stena Line Extends Ferries Maintenance Contract

Swedish ferry operator Stena Line has renewed its planned maintenance agreement with MacGregor, part of Cargotec. Stena Line has held MacGregor Onboard Care (MOC) agreements since 2008 and its latest contract takes the number of RoRo vessels covered to 39. Boskallis Wins Two Big Dredge Contracts

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. Boskalis is to build a breakwater in Clacton-on-Sea for Tendring District Council over a distance of five kilometers between Clacton Pier and Holland Haven. The breakwater will consist of 23 stone groynes with sand fill to create beaches in between. Boskalis will execute the project through the VBA JV Ltd (a consortium of Volker Stevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins). Work is scheduled to begin this summer and will be complete late 2015. Transas Wins Huge A.P. Moller Deal

Transas Scandinavia AB has won a large order to supply the A.P. Moller ship owning companies with an extensive ECDIS package. According to the contract signed with INFOCOM Systems A/S (Infocom), a technology company in the A.P. Moller Group, Transas will provide 160 Maersk vessels with a dual Navi-Sailor 2400 ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) complete with Radar Overlay, a full world folio of Transas electronic charts and a subscription to the chart correction service. Transas has also been contracted to supply the weather forecast software, Weather Wizard, onto each ship, as well as the necessary Transas computers and Hatteland displays. In addition to the onboard equipment range, the Transas delivery package will comprise an office ECDIS system for the A.P.

Transas Scandinavia Chosen by Torm

Transas (Transport Safety Systems) Scandinavia AB signed a deal with global shipping company Torm to fit 30 Simplified Data Recorders (S-VDR) complete with 20 Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to their fleet. Torm, which deals with ocean transport for refined oil products, manages the largest Special Product Tanker fleet in the world. Last year this fleet, which consists entirely of double hulled vessels, carried over 30 million tonnes of gasoline, jet fuels, diesel and naphtha around the globe. In addition, Torm manages three tanker ‘pools’ which operate over 80 ships of which one third are owned directly by Torm.

Transas Scandinavia Choses Torm

Transas Scandinavia AB announced their agreement with the global shipping company Torm to fit 30 Simplified Data Recorders (S-VDR) complete with 20 Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to their fleet. Torm manages 3 tanker ‘pools’ which operate over 80 ships of which 1/3 are owned directly by Torm, the rest being owned by some of the most prestigious names in shipping. Successful projects between Transas and Torm began in 2002, when Transas installed its first Electronic Chart System onboard a Torm Gotland.

Telemar Scandinavia Takes Over Mobile Satellite Business from TeliaSonera Sweden

An international business group lead by Compagnia Generale Telemar S.p.A. in Italy and Lagumar Marine AB in Sweden has formed Telemar Scandinavia AB which has acquired 100 percent of the shares in Telia Maricom AB. The acquired Telia Company, operating under the new name of Telemar Satellite Services AB, is taking over all Telia’s businesses and activities within the area of mobile satellite communication, including Inmarsat, Iridium, Globalstar as well as e-mail and data services via satellite and the Swedish telex network. The present staff from Telia Maricom AB is also joining the new company. Telemar Scandinavia will also take over the state-of-the-art DVP/IP platforms for asymmetric broadband services, recently acquired from Telia’s Satellite Division.

Sonera Sells Sector to Telemar Scandinavia

An international business group led by Compagnia Generale Telemar S.p.A. in Italy and Lagumar Marine AB in Sweden, has acquired the Finnish mobile satellite division from Sonera. Telemar Finland, a branch of Telemar Satellite Services AB, has taken over all Sonera’s businesses and activities in the mobile satellite communication sector, including Inmarsat, Iridium and Globalstar as well as e-mail and data services via satellite. The present staff from Sonera is joining the new company. Telemar Finland is also taking over responsibility for the Finnish Accounting Authority FI01 as well as the provision of mobile satellite services from Soneras fixed and GSM networks in Finland.

More Combat Boats Success For Transas Scandinavia

Transas Scandinavia has received an order to supply an extensive range of advanced navigational equipment to 27 units of the Swedish Defense CombatBoat-90 project. This will be the last batch of more than 160 fast boats constructed for the Swedish Amphibious Forces. The vessels will be specially equipped for U.N. peace-keeping operations and the Transas Navi-Sailor 2500 system interfaced with dedicated equipment for encrypted radio communication (PC-DART), will be one of the most vital systems onboard the craft. According to the contract terms, specifically for this project Transas Scandinavia AB will develop and install an integrated system, called NAVSYSTEM 3000, designated for use by the pilot (helmsman) and co-pilot (navigator).
