U.K. shipbuilder Southampton Marine Services said it has delivered a newly constructed 20.45-meter multipurpose harbor workboat to Svitzer. The new vessel, named Svitzer Merlin, is the forerunner in Southampton Marine Services’ new Bulldog workboats range. A Bulldog 20, the workboat is a repeat Svitzer order for Southampton Marine Services, being similar to the Middlesbrough-based Svitzer Leven. Svitzer Merlin takes her place in the Svitzer fleet being based at Milford Haven, performing general port collection work and recycling of waste from ships at the port.

The Pilbara Apollo, the latest addition to the RAstar 3200 escort tug series was delivered to its owners, Rio Tinto Ltd., earlier this year. The vessel was constructed at Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry Co. in Turkey and will operate at Rio Tinto’s iron ore export facilities at Cape Lambert (Port Walcott) and Dampier, Australia. The Pilbara Apollo is the first of six new RAstar 3200 tugs to be delivered to Rio Tinto as part of this contract. The tugs will assist very large ore carriers in berthing and un-berthing at exposed, open water berths in severe wind and wave conditions.

Damen Shipyards have delivered the ASD tugs ‘Karloo’ and ‘Kalarka’ to Half Tide Marine Pty Ltd of Australia. The tugs were built to the highly successful ASD Tug 3111 design, which in common with most Damen vessels, has been the subject of constant research and improvement. Including ‘Karloo’ and ‘Kalarka’, Damen has delivered twenty tugs built to that design, which will now be replaced by the new ASD Tug 3212. Kvichak Marine, Industries, Inc. recently constructed and delivered a 25.7 ft push boat to Seattle City Light  for operation with the service barge at the Diablo Dam in the North Cascades. This Kvichak Marine design is constructed of marine grade aluminum alloy plate and extrusions. Two vertical push knees are located at the bow. The knees are padded by six inch D-section rubber. A 1,500 lb davit with manual winch is mounted on the stern. The push boat is powered by twin John Deere 330 hp turbo charged diesel engines with stainless steel props in enclosed nozzles…

Seattle City Light has awarded a contract to Kvichak Marine Industries to build a 25.8-ft push boat designed by Kvichak Marine to operate with the service barge at the Diablo Dam in the North Cascades. The hull and superstructure will be constructed of marine grade aluminum alloy plate and extrusions. Two vertical push knees will be located at the bow. The knees will be padded by 6” D-section rubber. A 1,500 lb davit with manual winch will be mounted on the stern. The push boat will be powered by twin John Deere 300 hp turbo charged diesel engines with stainless steel props in enclosed nozzles, allowing for speed of 8 knots while pushing the barge.
