Fire-stricken Icebreaker Overhauled
SENER reports it has completed the engineering works relating to the re-outfit and overhaul of the Almirante Irizar icebreaker following a fire accident in an Antarctic season. In 2009, the Argentinean Navy and the Tandanor SACyF shipyard asked SENER Ingenieria y Sistemas – Argentina to deliver an engineering integral project for the repair and modernization of the Almirante Irizar icebreaker. Iberdrola Renovables, SENER Agreement
The Spanish company Iberdrola Renovables and SENER, Ingenieria y Sistemas, have signed an agreement for the active participation of SENER in the R&D concerning floating wind turbine supports moored over deep waters -more than 50m depth. The project, named as Proyecto Emerge, has been promoted from the off-shore wind projects department at Iberdrola Renovables. The scope of the researching project includes two different phases. From the first one, consisting on the execution of all the engineering works for the development of the floating wind turbine supports, SENER have assumed those regarding the marine engineering. This phase, in its turn, is divided into two steps, being the first one devoted to the viability aspects, both technical and commercial.
SENER Setup First China FORAN Technical Support Center
An opening ceremony for the first FORAN China Technical Support Center was held in September the 27th in Zhenjiang, China. At the same time a cooperation agreement was signed between Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST), SENER INGENIERIA Y SISTEMAS, S.A. (SENER) and United Force Corporation (UFC). Dong Shirun, Vice President of JUST, Luis Garcia, Executive Vice President of SENER Marine and Mr. Jeff Song, Vice President of UFC attended the ceremony. According to the agreement, 50 licenses of FORAN are installed in JUST for educational purposes and the execution of real projects. Dong emphasized that in order to give strong support to Chinese users of FORAN, JUST will also develop necessary functions, such as localization and customization, based on FORAN.
Seven Shipbuilding R&D Projects get Greenlight
The Executive Control Board of the National Shipbuilding Research Program Advanced Shipbuilding Enterprise (NSRP ASE) selected seven new research projects as part of the Navy/Industry co-funded portfolio. GUIDO PERLA, SENER to work together on SWATH project
GUIDO PERLA & ASSOCIATES, Seattle, Washington, and Spain’s SENER INGENIERIA Y SISTEMAS have teamed up to develop the detailed structure and outfitting engineering of an oceanographic research ship, designated the AGOR-26. SENER’s computer-aided ship design and production system, FORAN, will be used for the work, most of which will be carried out in Seattle by GPA staff assisted by SENER engineers. A second SENER team will be working in parallel from its Tres Cantos offices. AGOR-26 will be configured as a Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) vessel following a conceptual design made by LOCKHEED MARTIN LAUNCHING SYSTEMS, Middle River, Maryland, in response to a requirement from the OFFICE OF NAVAL RESEARCH, the Oceanographer of the US Navy.
