Q&A: Ballast Water Management Market Matures

Since the ballast water management system discussion started nearly two decades ago, a clear concern was the ability to fit new equipment on existing ships, placing a strain on both space and power. Ballast water management systems (BWMS) manufacturer TECHCROSS announced it is expanding its offering to include a tank level gauging system (TLGS ) and valve remote control system (VRCS). Partners Spur Smart Shipping Software Development

The world’s largest shipbuilder has launched an initiative with several industry partners that aims to help small and medium-sized ICT companies develop software for smart shipping, a so-called Eco System for Smart Ships. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and its partners SK Shipping, Intel, Microsoft, the Ulsan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation (UCCEI) and the Daejeon Center for Creative Economy & Innovation (DCCEI) will together help domestic companies develop “17 Ship Service Software,” that meet the needs of shipowners for safe ship operation and improved crew wellbeing. Major US Port Chooses Fieldpoint Service Software

Fieldpoint Service Applications say that one of the largest U.S. Port Authorities had selected Alert Software as their Project Management, Contract and Grant Management solution. As stated in the [not named] Port Authority's 2012 annual report, they had $38.6M worth of completed capital projects and $35.3M in construction-in-progress projects. Project accountability was a key driver for this initiative. With several millions of Federal, State and Tax dollars being awarded, tight cost controls were required from the bid process to project delivery and on-going maintenance support. Alert Software say they will unify the project management processes and aggregate job cost details throughout the project lifecycle.

Skipper: New Support Tools for Acoustic Products

Skipper released the new support tool for all technicians serving acoustic products. The Skipper ETT985 is a combined echo sounder simulator, transducer tester and NMEA tester, in a single handheld unit. This tool allows the technician to test both the acoustical functions of the Echo Sounder and Transducers. The ETT985 has a built-in rechargeable battery. The simulator will measure the transmitted pulse and replying with either the same pulse or a user defined pulse. In conjunction with the systems data bulletin an integrity test of the Echo Sounder unit can be performed in minutes.
