Eniram Launches 3 New Energy Savers

Eniram Ltd, a provider of energy management and fuel-saving technology and analytic services to the shipping industry, announced the release of three new products aiming to help save fuel and optimize energy usage on vessels. The company has launched the upgraded speed optimization solution Eniram Speed 3.0, Eniram Performance 3.0 data analytic software, as well as Eniram Fleet Route KPIs designed to support improved routing. Improving on past version Eniram Speed 2.0, the new Eniram Speed 3.0 takes into account factors such as the prevailing sea state, in computing and recommending best speed profile to consume least energy and thus save fuel.

Four Nominees HME Maritime Innovation Award 2012

The nominees of the Dutch HME Maritime Innovation Award 2012 are Huisman Equipment BV, VOSTA LMG BV, Kranendonk Production Systems BV, and Imtech Marine & Offshore BV. These nominees are selected out of sixteen innovative submissions. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala on Thursday 8 November 2012 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. On 14 September 2012 the nominated companies will clarify their new products to a jury. The jury includes leading experts on shipping, shipbuilding, maritime services, offshore, and maritime research.

Wärtsilä, Man Diesel Continue Research

Wärtsilä and MAN Diesel & Turbo enter next phase of HERCULES research project. World-leading low- and medium-speed engine manufacturers, Wärtsilä and MAN Diesel & Turbo, announce the kick off of the next phase of the extensive, long-term HERCULES research programme. The overall vision of the programme is to achieve sustainable and safe energy production from marine power plants. This next phase is made possible by funding from the European Commission. Phase III of the HERCULES programme, HERCULES-C, aims at integrating several successful technologies in order to reduce emissions and optimise the efficiency and long-term reliability of marine engines. HERCULES-C is planned to run for three years, from 2012 to 2014, with a budget of EUR 17 million.

Wärtsilä, MAN Diesel & Turbo Continue Research Project

Two world-leading European marine engine manufacturers, MAN Diesel & Turbo and Wärtsilä Corporation, have agreed to pursue a large joint research project, the HERCULES-C project, as a continuation of the very successful HERCULES programs for the research and development of marine engine technology. The overall vision of the HERCULES research program is for sustainable and safe energy production from marine power plants. The technological themes of the HERCULES initiative have, since its inception in 2002, been higher efficiency, reduced emissions, and increased reliability for marine engines. Climate Change: a Challenge for IMO Too

September 24 2009 marks the 32nd celebration of World Maritime Day, the annual occasion when the International Maritime Organization (IMO) leads the world in highlighting a key issue for the Organization and the shipping industry. This year, the theme for World Maritime Day is Climate Change: a challenge for IMO too! In his World Maritime Day message to the international maritime community, IMO Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos said that now was the time to make tough decisions to address climate change, and to act with total and undivided commitment. "At IMO, we are heavily and consistently engaged in the fight to protect and preserve our environment - both marine and atmospheric.

IMO Reports Progress on Vessel Energy Efficiency

Significant progress was made in developing measures to enhance energy efficiency in international shipping, and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions, when the second intersessional meeting of IMO's Working Group on Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) from Ships was held at IMO's London headquarters from 9 to 13 March 2009. The meeting will report to IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) when it meets for its 59th session in July. The working group, which was attended by more than 200 experts from all over the world, concentrated on the technical and operational measures to reduce GHG from ships - two of the three pillars of IMO's GHG work. The third pillar, possible market-based instruments, will be debated in depth at MEPC 59.
