Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen announced it has delivered a new shallow draft vessel to the German energy infrastructure construction company Bohlen & Doyen Bau GmbH, a subsidiary of Friedrich Vorwerk. The new Multi Cat 1908 SD workboat, named Scholle, is the first marine asset to be bought by the company in many years.The 19.4-meter vessel has been bought for use on a multi-year project supporting transmission system operator TenneT on its offshore grid connection systems in the North Sea.

Port Angeles, Wash. shipyard Platypus Marine has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen for the construction of a new Jones Act-qualified crew transfer vessel (CTV) to service the U.S. offshore wind industry. The agreement covers design license and material package.The vessel, which Platypus will build on spec, will be of Damen's FCS 2710 design. The 26.8-meter aluminum catamaran has already been proven in the European market. A large fleet of Jones Act-compliant CTVs will be needed to help build and service the United States' growing offshore wind industry.

Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a Ballast Water Pre Filtration Barge (BWPF) to assist vessels in complying with the IMO's Ballast Water Management Convention.The new legislation came into force on September 8th 2019 and Damen Green Solutions has prepared a range of products and services to assist its clients in meeting the requirements of the new legislation.The globally operating company with more than 50 shipyards, repair yards, and related companies said in a press note that the BWPF Barge can process up to 4,000 m3 water per hour with a sediment level anything between 50 and 1,500 mg per liter.Filtration is available between 10 and 50 micron, to suit varying sediment sizes.

Chinese shipbuilding conglomerate China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) said that its worldwide equipment service subsidiary CSSC Marine Service Co (CMS) is using its expanded network of service stations to deliver a retrofit solution to engine starting problems that may occur with less viscous low-sulfur fuels (LSF).Some two-stroke engines using common-rail injection report problems reaching and maintaining high enough fuel rail pressure due to wear of fuel pumps, starting air problems or leaking injection control units.The concern is amplified when using fuels that are lighter and less viscous than heavy fuel oil, such as many of the very low sulfur fuel oil blends ship owners are likely to use to comply with IMO’s sulfur cap from 1 January 2020.

South Korea’s leading shipbuilding conglomerate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group has submitted an application to the European Union for approval for its takeover of the compatriot shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).According a Yonhap report,  HHI informed that the submission will be reviewed by anti-trust authorities at the European Commission, expecting the results of their call in 2020.Hyundai Heavy has been taking prerequisite steps since April to apply for the EU’s mergers and acquisitions approval.In March, Hyundai Heavy signed a formal deal, worth an estimated 2 trillion won (US$1.7 billion) to buy its smaller local rival from the state-run Korea Development Bank (KDB).

South Korea's top shipbuilding conglomerate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group said that its holding company HHI Holdings Co will receive 1.4 trillion won ($1.24 billion) in proceeds next month from the sale of a stake in its refining unit, Hyundai Oilbank.In April, state-owned Saudi Aramco had agreed to buy a 17 percent stake in HHIs oil processing operations.Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings said in a regulatory filing that it had signed a sales agreement with Saudi Aramco that included an option for Aramco to buy an additional 2.9 percent stake in Hyundai Oilbank.According to a report in Korea Herald, Saudi Aramco recently told Hyundai Heavy that it has earned regulatory approval for the deal from antitrust regulators in various countries…

Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen Group announced that Damen Dredging Equipment has delivered CSD500-S, a fully customised cutter dredger for acidic environment,  to Australian customer, Energy Resources of Australia (ERA)."The Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD), which has been named the Brolga I, will work in an acidic environment with a pH of approximately 3 for which a wide array of adaptations have been incorporated," it said in a press release.The dredger has been shipped to Antwerp, where it was loaded on board a transport vessel bound for the north of Australia. It will arrive at the Ranger Mine in Jabiru in the Northern Territory at the end of May.The CSD500-S is based on the Damen standard vessel type…

Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) for a Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) Material Package.The contract will see KS&EW constructing two Damen ASD Tugs 2009 with Damen’s support, said the company which operates 36 shipbuilding and repair yards.The contract was signed on behalf of KS&EW by General Manager Shipbuilding Commodore (R) Saleem Iqbal SI(M) and by regional director Teun Haverkort on behalf of Damen.Both shipyards have been working together since 1988 and have successfully delivered numerous vessels to various clients in Pakistan.The ASD Tug 2009 is a proven, standardised design featuring sea-keeping behavior, superb manoeuvrability and outstanding towing characteristics.

US authorities announced that South Korea's top shipbuilding conglomerate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) will pay a US$47 million fine for illegally importing and selling dirty diesel engines in violation of American environmental rules.US Justice Department and and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that between 2012 and 2015, the company imported nearly 2,300 diesel-powered heavy construction vehicles with engines that did not meet US emissions standards.“Hyundai put profits above the public’s health and the requirements of the law,” Jeffrey Bossert Clark, head of the department’s environment and natural resources division…

South Korean shipbuilding conglomerate Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group has officially started the process to earn approval from anti-trust regulators for its proposed takeover of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. (DSME).HHI has submitted a request for the formal approval from the South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC), as well as from antitrust authorities in Japan, China, Kazakhstan and the European Union.According to Yonhap New Agency the shipbuilding major would submit further requests for approval to other countries.Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group completed the spinoff of Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. into Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co.
