Cargotec, Konecranes Win EU Antitrust Approval for $5 Billion Merger

Cargotec and Konecranes on Thursday won EU antitrust clearance for their 4.5-billion-euro ($5 billion) deal to create a global leader in industrial machinery after agreeing to divest some businesses.The companies, which provide road and sea-cargo handling machinery and services to industries, factories, ports and terminals, announced their tie-up in October last year.The European Commission said the companies' remedies addressed its concerns that the deal may hurt competition and lead to higher prices, confirming a Reuters story on Feb.

Kalmar Supplies Hybrid Shuttle Carriers to Virginia Port

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced that it will supply 25 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers to the Port of Virginia, a growing, deep water port on the U.S. East Coast.The $23 million (USD) order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q3 order intake, and represents the exercising of a contract option for further units that was agreed upon in 2017. Delivery of the new machines is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2020.The new units will be delivered to Norfolk International Terminals (NIT), which is the port’s largest terminal and capable of handling the biggest vessels in the Atlantic trade. Kalmar, DP World Southampton Pact for Hybrid Straddle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with DP World Southampton to supply 12 hybrid straddle carriers for use at their container terminal, said a press release.The Southampton agreement also includes maintenance and operator training as well as six months of on-site maintenance support. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled for Q2 of 2019. DP World Southampton is the UK port of choice for many global leaders in the container shipping industry. Thanks to its strategic location on the UK's south coast it is an ideal first or last port of call for container ships serving the Northern Europe-Far East trade routes.

Kalmar Launches FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, announced today that it will expand the FastCharge technology into its hybrid straddle and shuttle carrier product portfolio. The new Kalmar FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier will be the first of its kind on the market, and it is especially targeted for existing straddle carrier terminals not able to utilise fully electric powered solution for various reasons. "By combining FastCharge and hybrid technologies, we are making the electric powered solution accessible for more terminals and therefore helping them to cut down emission levels significantly", says Dr. Tero Kokko, Vice President, Intelligent Horizontal Transportation Solutions at Kalmar.

19 Kalmar Shuttle Carriers for APM Terminal in Italy

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order for 19 hybrid shuttle carriers from APM Terminals for their newest container terminal that is under construction in Vado, Italy. The machines will be delivered during 2017. APM Terminals' deepwater Vado container terminal will be the world's first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid shuttle carrier fleet. The Kalmar HSH240 hybrid shuttle carriers will help APM Terminals to optimise the productivity of their terminal by decoupling waterside and landside operations. The hybrid machines have been designed with an advanced regenerative energy system that converts energy from operational braking and lowering of the spreader into electric power which is then captured and stored through new and innovative battery technology.

Virginia Port Deploys Hybrid Shuttle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has delivered the three hybrid shuttle carriers ordered by The Port of Virginia in late 2014, to Virginia International Gateway terminal (VIG) in Portsmouth, Virginia, USA. The environmentally advanced units have been in action in VIG since last week. Cargo volumes at VIG are growing and the terminal's operations team seeks to increase container handling capacity while furthering its commitment to environmental values. Kalmar Bags Virginia Port Order for Shuttle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order for three Kalmar hybrid shuttle carriers from the Port of Virginia, a multi-terminal container and breakbulk cargo complex located in Virginia, 18 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The 1-over-1 hybrid shuttle carriers will be dedicated to operations at Virginia International Gateway (VIG), one of the port's four terminals. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2014 fourth quarter order intake with delivery scheduled for third quarter 2015. VIG is a semi-automated operation with automatic stacking cranes (ASCs) in the yard operations and manual shuttle carriers used for the transport of containers from the ship-to-shore area to the ASCs.

Mammoet Lifts Space Shuttle atop Carrier Aircraft

Mammoet lifts space shuttle replica Independence atop the original Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) NASA 905, a Boeing 747.

Last week, engineered heavy lifting and transport company Mammoet lifted a new attraction at the NASA Space Center Houston to a greater height. As thousands of onlookers watched, a 250-foot tall Mammoet crane lifted a 122-foot long space shuttle replica three stories high to its resting place atop the original Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) NASA 905, a Boeing 747. The Boeing, with its unique piggyback cargo, ultimately will become a destination for visitors from around the world. The delicate lift to the crown of the 63-foot 747 took about 40 minutes.

Kalmar Expands TTI Algeciras Shuttle Carrier Fleet

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order to supply two shuttle carriers to a long-standing customer, Total Terminal International (TTI) Algeciras SAU. The order has been booked into Cargotec's second quarter 2013 order intake. TTI Algeciras, the first semi-automatic terminal in Southern Europe, will take delivery of these additional shuttle carriers in the fourth quarter of 2013. The new machines will add to the customer's existing fleet of 20 Kalmar shuttle carriers and will handle containers from 20' to 40'. Kalmar's latest generation shuttle carriers feature a modular design for excellent versatility. The SCH250H has been fitted with twin extendable spreaders and has the capability of lifting up to 50 tonnes.

Kalmar Introduces Electrical Shuttle Carrier

Cargotec continues to develop its range of Kalmar straddle carriers with an environmental focus. The latest addition to the product range is the Electrical Shuttle Carrier, ESH W, which provides higher productivity with lower emissions. Ilkka Annala, Vice President of Kalmar Straddle Carriers, Cargotec said, “With our original Kalmar Shuttle Carrier we revolutionised quayside productivity in mega-terminals by eliminating waiting times with decoupling of vessel and yard operations. In addition to increasing terminal productivity, our customers are now building more sustainable operations. This need triggered the launch of our new Electrical Shuttle Carrier, the ESH W, for manual or fully automated operations.

20 Kalmar Shuttle Carriers to Algeciras

Cargotec's Kalmar business area has been awarded a contract to provide a fleet of shuttle carriers to TTI Algeciras S.A. in Spain. These 20 Kalmar SHC240H shuttle carriers have a single-lifting capacity of 40 tonnes and can stack containers two high. The equipment will be delivered by January 2010. The key productivity benefit of the shuttle carrier is its ability to leave and pick up containers from the ground eliminating waiting times. Ship-to-shore cranes place containers from the vessel on the ground, under the crane's back reach, from where the containers are then collected by the shuttle carriers and transported to the automatic stacking crane buffer area.
