Simrad, Lowrance join Barrus Marine

Barrus Marine Equipment in the UK, the Marine Leisure Division of EP Barrus, has expanded its product portfolio with the addition of Navico's Simrad and Lowrance brands.The UK-based engine importer and distributor entered the marine chandlery market last year, when it took on the Besto Lifesavers range of marine safety and life-saving equipment.Since then it has secured distribution of 20 new brands, which complement the existing range of parts and accessories distributed by Barrus.Amongst these new brands are Simrad and Lowrance, market leading marine electronics brands for the recreational and commercial marine markets."The Simrad range of marine electronics are for powerboats, sports boats and day boats.

Vittoria Shipyard's Interceptor 43' at Seafuture

Vittoria Shipyard, which specializes in the construction of paramilitary, commercial and passenger vessels of up to 100 meters, will in 2016 take part for the first time in Seafuture & Maritime Technologies, which is to be held at the Military Arsenal in La Spezia from May 24-27, 2016. The shipyard from Adria will present its Interceptor 43’, which will be moored at the Pagliari dock, and will be on show to visitors for the duration of the show. The new vessel is based on the standards of Customs and Border Protection of the U.S.

Cummins Darlington: 50 Years of Engine Production

UK-based Cummins Darlington is celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2015. Since opening, around 1.5 million engines have been built in the factory for customers worldwide, providing power for vessels as well as land vehicles. Work began in 1963 on the £8.5 million plant with engine production commencing in 1965, having more than 400 employees’ onsite. The production line assembled Cummins range of Small Vee V6 and V8 engines, named VAL and VALE. With cubic capacities of 5.7 and 8.3 liters, they had a capability of up to 111 kW, suitable for a range of boats at the time.

Livorsi Obtains License From Mercury Marine

Livorsi Marine Inc. has obtained a license from Mercury Marine which allows the company to combine Digital Throttle and Shift technology (DTS) with the options and quality of Livorsi controls. These controls provide precise control of a boat using Smartcraft ® DTS technology, which enables smooth and safe shifting. Direct drive of throttle position sensors results in faster response times. . These controls are designed to work on all Mercury I/O, OB and Cummins DTS engines. Single, twin triple and quad configurations are available in a variety of styles and colors.

MerCruiser Big Block

Mercury MerCruiser has developed the next generation of big-block marine power – a new engine that produces more power and has better mid-range acceleration, lower emissions and superior fuel efficiency. Mercury MerCruiser engineers in Stillwater, Okla. – drawing on the expertise of the development teams at Mercury Racing – conceived, designed and engineered the new engine with support from Mercury engineers in Fond du Lac, Wis. The next-generation, naturally aspirated big block features high-performance aluminum cylinder heads that improve mid-range acceleration and increase power. High-octane fuel is not required – the engine runs on 87 octane and achieves remarkably low oil consumption.

New Ratings For QSM11 and QSC8.3

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel has announced new commercial engine application ratings for the Quantum Series QSM11 at 300 hp (220kW), 355 hp (261kW), 405 hp (298kW) and 455 hp (336kW) respectively. Additionally, commercial engine application ratings of 490 hp (361kW) for the QSC8.3 diesel engine were released. Utilizing the proven fuel-efficient CELECT and common rail fuel systems that delivers virtually smoke-free, quiet, yet powerful operation, these full-authority electronic system engines are EPA Tier 2 and IMO emissions compliant.

Cummins and Mercury Marine to Form Joint Venture

Cummins Marine, a division of Cummins Inc., and Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corporation, announced the formation of a 50/50 joint venture to supply integrated diesel propulsion systems to the worldwide recreational and commercial marine markets. The joint venture, Cummins MerCruiser Diesel Marine LLC, will be headquartered in Charleston, S.C. Under the terms of the agreement, Cummins will supply diesel engines 15 liters and below, including certain electronic displays and other hardware. Mercury Marine will supply the Mercury 1.7 liter, 2.8 liter, 4.2 liter and 7.3 liter diesel engines, drive units for sterndrive applications and their SmartCraft(R) electronic integration hardware. units.
