Photos: US Retrieves Suspected Chinese Spy Balloon Shot Down in the Atlantic

Photos released by the U.S. Navy on Tuesday show sailors collecting the remnants of a suspected Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by an Air Force fighter over the weekend off the coast of South Carolina.The U.S. military began collecting the debris after the high-altitude surveillance balloon was shot down by an F-22 fighter over the weekend at the orders of President Joe Biden. The balloon fell about six miles off the coast of Myrtle Beach, S.C., into about 50 feet of water.China has claimed that the balloon was a wayward “civilian unmanned airship” primarily conducting weather research.

Cheniere to Fix Louisiana LNG Plant After Failing Pollution Test

Top U.S. LNG exporter Cheniere Energy Inc said it will repair and replace equipment at its Louisiana terminal after tests showed it exceeded newly-imposed hazardous emissions limits on certain known carcinogens, but the work will have no material impact on operations.A round of testing showed at least one of Cheniere's turbines at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Louisiana failed the new standards, while the turbines in Texas at the company's only other U.S.

The Coast Guard saved three mariners aboard a disabled sailing vessel more than 50 miles east southeast of Cape Lookout, Saturday evening.At 9:45 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received notification of the 36-foot disabled sailing vessel Cloud from Sea Tow. Virginia-Class Submarine Delaware Christened

Huntington Ingalls Industries  christened the Virginia-class submarine Delaware (SSN 791) this morning at the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding division.Jill Biden, the former Second Lady of the United States and the ship’s sponsor, smashed a bottle of sparkling wine against the hull, celebrating the latest milestone of the newest U.S. Navy vessel prior to its launch.“I know it is a tremendous privilege to be selected as a pre-commission crew member, and the sailors standing with us today are the very best the Navy has to offer,” Biden said. “I am grateful to become part of the USS Delaware family and to be their shipmate for life.”The ceremony took place in Newport News’ Module Outfitting Facility and was attended by more than 1,500 guests, including Delaware Gov. USCG Cutter Richard Snyder Commissioned

The Coast Guard commissioned North Carolina's first Fast Response Cutter, the Richard Snyder, during a ceremony in Atlantic Beach. FRCs feature advanced command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance equipment that allow their crews to more effectively conduct the Coast Guard’s statutory missions. The cutter is named after Richard Snyder, a World War II hero known for his brave actions in battle defending troops coming to shore on the Island of Biak at the western edge of Papua New Guinea. Snyder was awarded the Silver Star, and was entitled to six bronze stars on his campaign ribbons, which included the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled to commission Fast Response Cutter, the Richard Snyder, during a ceremony in Atlantic Beach, N.C. on Friday.The vessel was built by Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana and delivered to the Coast Guard on February 8, 2018, in Key West, Fla.The cutter is named after Richard Snyder, a World War II hero known for his brave actions in battle defending troops coming to shore on the Island of Biak at the western edge of Papua New Guinea. Louisiana shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards said it delivered the U.S. Coast Guard’s 27th Fast Response Cutter (FRC), U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Richard Snyder, on February 8, 2018 in Key West, Fla. The vessel’s commissioning is slated for April, 2018 in Atlantic Beach, N.C. The 154-foot patrol craft USCGC Richard Snyder is the 27th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program, and the first be stationed in Atlantic Beach. Previous cutters are stationed in Florida, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Alaska, Mississippi and Hawaii.

LNG Price Row between GAIL, Cheniere Looms

India's biggest importer of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) is trying to re-negotiate prices with the U.S. seller, sources said, undermining plans by U.S. President Donald Trump to export more gas to the fast-growing Asian nation. At a joint news conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House this week, Trump said the United States looked forward to exporting more energy, including new major long-term contracts to purchase American natural gas. The effort is part of Trump's policy of seeking to assert power abroad through a boost in natural gas, coal and petroleum exports. He said on Thursday that the "golden era" of the U.S. energy business was now underway.

New Tug for E.N. Bisso & Son

A new tug  built by Signet Shipbuilding and Repair was delivered to E.N. Bisso & Son Inc. in mid-December. The vessel, Gladys B, is Robert Allan Ltd.’s newest RApport 2400 class tugboat design. “She is named for the wife of the founder of the company in 1946, Captain Edwin Napoleon Bisso. This powerful steel titan will serve her owner well. Built in America, built by Americans and built for progress. She will soon be known in Louisiana as the Maserati of the River,” said Signet President, J. Barry Snyder.

Great Lakes Shipyards Heating up for Winter

As temperatures drop, the pace is heating up at Great Lakes shipyards where winter is typically the busiest season, and this year is no exception. U.S.-flag Great Lakes vessel operators will spend more than $80 million to maintain and modernize their vessels for the 2017 shipping season, according to the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA). “Once again Lake Carriers’ Association members are demonstrating their commitment to Great Lakes shipping,” said James H.I. Weakley, President of the trade association representing the major U.S.-flag carriers.

Signet Launches New Tug for E.N. Bisso

On the morning of October 12, 2016, E.N. Bisso and Signet Shipbuilding & Repair (SS&R) Pascagoula, Miss., christened and launched E.N. Bisso’s newest high technology Robert Allan Ltd. (RAL) design tug. Mrs. Deborah F. McDonald, wife of Mr. William H. McDonald, President, E.N. Bisso, New Orleans, Louisiana, was the Christening Sponsor. The GLADYS B, SS&R Hull 109 was launched immediately following the ceremony, and will be delivered on-time and on-budget December 12, 2016. This ASD tug is the fourth RAL design vessel constructed by SS&R, with two new build contracts currently under negotiation.

Motor City Welcomes Navy’s Newest Ship

Nearly 6,500 people gathered in front of the General Motors building at the Port of Detroit for the commissioning ceremony for the U.S. Navy’s new Freedom-variant littoral combat ship (LCS), USS Detroit (LCS 7), on October 22, when the ship was officially placed in commission by Adm. Phil Davidson, commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command. “When a ship is commissioned she is placed in service of the American people and is given the charge to do one thing: to execute the Navy's mission – to be prepared to conduct prompt, sustained combat incident to operations at sea,” Davidson said.

Michigan Governor Calls for 2nd Poe-sized Lock

A second Poe-sized Lock is critical to the future of Michigan and the United States, declared Michigan Governor Rick Snyder in his State of the State address on January 19, and he pledged to work with Congress to build it, the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA) reported. Gov. Snyder noted that 4,000 commercial vessels transit the locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. each year, but most of the tonnage goes through the Poe Lock because it can accommodate the largest and most efficient vessels. “What would happen if that one lock went down?” the Governor continued.

Navy Announces SAAPM 2015 Theme

Navy leaders announced March 16 the Department of Defense 2015 Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) theme of "Eliminate Sexual Assault: Know your part. Do your part." The effort will focus on raising awareness and highlighting prevention of sexual violence with an emphasis on bystander intervention. April is an opportunity to build on existing momentum to eliminate the crime of sexual assault and ensure all service members are committed to creating command climates of professionalism, dignity and respect. "As we focus on this year's theme of 'Eliminate Sexual Assault: Know your part. Do your part', it's critical that everyone takes time to focus on the areas where they can help, through attention and intervention," said Rear Adm.

Signet Transports Second LLOG Rig to GofM

On September 14, five Signet Maritime ASD/Z-Drive tugboats, the SIGNET ENTERPRISE, SIGNET RELIANCE, SIGNET MAGIC, SIGNET WEATHERLY, and SIGNET VOLUNTEER successfully completed the Towout of LLOG’s DELTA HOUSE semisubmersible production facility to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. In June 2011, Signet also assisted with LLOG’s highly successful OPTI-EX Floating Production System (FPS) for the Who Dat development field located in Mississippi Canyon 503/504/547. Signet Maritime’s Tractor fleet escorts DELTA HOUSE to the Gulf of Mexico. Signet’s International Operations Complex located in Ingleside, Texas was responsible for assisting with the arrival of each hull on a heavy lift vessel (HLV), offload in the deep hole, lifts & sets, stability (incline) testing, and sail-out.

Signet Buys Harvey Gulf's Towing Division

Harvey Gulf International Marine has sold its towing division to Signet Maritime Corporation. Through the deal, Signet will acquire eight offshore towing vessels (OTVs) ranging in size from 75 to 153 metric tons bollard pull. The sale will encompass all Harvey OTVs, spares, business and supplies. The transfer of OTV ownership was completed on May 15, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana with financing provided by Wells Fargo Equipment Finance as part of a $209 million syndicated financing facility.

Signet Closes $209m Financing Facility

Wells Fargo Equipment Finance, through its Energy and Marine and Capital Markets Groups, acting in the capacity of lead arranger, closed a $209 million financing facility today for Signet Maritime Corporation, a global marine transportation company based in Houston. The new facility refinances Signet’s existing bank debt and provides acquisition financing for the purchase of Harvey Gulf International Marine’s ocean towing vessel (OTV) fleet, which includes eight OTVs. Signet will also use proceeds of the financing facility to complete the construction and purchase of three newbuild escort ASD reverse tractor tugs, and the purchase of three existing bareboat chartered vessels.

Signet Maritime Corporation is investing $7.2 million in infrastructure improvements to their Pascagoula, Mississippi shipyard, Signet Shipbuilding & Repair (SS&R) to support an increased workload and future growth. In addition to the recent acquisition of the 150-ton crawler crane, the shipyard facility modernization includes the dredging and renewal of a 1000-foot waterfront bulkhead, a new fabrication shop, expanded drydock and concrete base for vessel repairs, and improved sand blasting and painting area.

J.F. Lehman & Company, a middle-market private equity firm focused on the maritime, defense and aerospace sectors, announced today that it has sold its portfolio company, Northeast Ship Repair, Inc. to affiliates of Plexus Capital and NewSpring Capital. The sale of Northeast Ship Repair follows J.F. Lehman's recent sales of ACR Electronics and Drew Marine, both announced on November 19. Northeast Ship Repair is a provider of large vessel maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the U.S. Government noncombatant fleet and commercial customers.
