Maran Tankers Takes Suezmax Delivery from South Korea's Daehan

The newly built Suezmax tanker Maran Solon was delivered to Maran Tankers Management on January 4, the Greek operator said on social media.The Greek-flagged, 157,000 dwt Suezmax is classed by ABS and was built by Daehan Shipbuilding Co. in South Korea.The handover follows the 2020 deliveries of DNV GL-classed Maran Phoebe and Maran Orpheus, as well as ABS-classed Maran Aspasia, all Greek-flagged and built by Daehan.Maran Tankers also has a pair of 318,000 dwt very large crude carriers (VLCC) on order from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME)…

Maran Tankers Takes Suezmax Delivery from Daehan

Greek operator Maran Tankers Management (MTM), part of the Angelicoussis Group, has taken delivery of the 157,000 dwt oil tanker Maran Orpheus, built by Daehan Shipbuilding Co. in South Korea. The Suezmax delivery follows the 157,946 dwt Maran Phoebe handed over from Daehan in June. Both ships are Greek-flagged and classed by DNV GL.Daehan is also building the ABS-classed, 157,000 dwt Maran Aspasia and Maran Solon scheduled for delivery to MTM in October and December respectively.

Duluth Seaway Port Authority Officers Elected

During its annual meeting held March 25, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority Board of Commissioners elected officers for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2020.The board re-elected Rick Revoir to serve his second year as president. Other appointments included Tony Sertich as vice president, Patrick Boyle as secretary, Norm Voorhees as treasurer and Mike Jugovich as assistant treasurer. Together with fellow board members Ray Klosowski and Yvonne Prettner Solon, this septet oversees the Port Authority’s financial and organizational affairs.The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is governed by a seven-member board – two commissioners appointed by the state’s governor, two by the St. Louis County board, and three by the Duluth City Council.

Raukar Reappointed to Duluth Port Authority Board

At its first meeting of 2016, the St. Louis County Board reappointed its longest serving Commissioner, Steve Raukar, to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority Board for a third term. First appointed in 1998, Raukar currently serves as Port Authority president. “The Port Authority is a strategic link in domestic and global trade, fostering economic growth for all of northeastern Minnesota,” said Raukar. Raukar has represented the Seventh District on the St. Louis County Board since first being elected in 1988.

Chinese Solar Company to Buy Germany's SAG Solarstrom

German solar firm SAG Solarstrom AG, which filed for insolvency late last year, said on Saturday it agreed to be acquired by Shunfeng Photovoltaic International for 65 million euros ($85 million). The small German company, which builds and operates solar power plants, said all jobs were safe and additional jobs would be created under Shunfeng's growth strategy for the business. Solar companies have been under pressure from plunging prices for solar panels and cells, which convert sunlight into electricity, caused by a global glut of the equipment. Some of the companies, including Q-Cells, Solon and Conergy, have filed for insolvency in the last few years and have subsequently been broken up and parts of the businesses sold.

Royal IHC (IHC) has reached an agreement to sell 100% of its shares in its subsidiary IHC Sealing Solutions to new owners Willem Steenge, who as CEO is partly responsible for the strong growth of IHC Sealing Solutions in recent years, and Rabo Participaties (RaPar). The sale enables IHC to strengthen its focus on its core business: offering integrated innovative vessels, advanced equipment and life-cycle support to the dredging, wet mining and offshore construction industries.

MARAD Awards $3.1M Contract to New Bay Area Ship Recycler

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration announced that it has awarded two contracts for a total of $3.1m to Allied Defense Recycling of Petaluma, Calif., to clean and recycle two Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet ships, the SS Solon Turman and the SS President. The two ships are scheduled to be towed from Suisun Bay to the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard facility in for recycling in December. “The Obama Administration is running full-speed ahead in its commitment to cleaning up the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. In October 2009, the Obama Administration called for expedited cleanup of the fleet site and improved protection of the unique marine environment and surrounding bayside communities…
