Four Rescued from Fishing Vessel Blaze
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from a life raft after a commercial fishing vessel caught fire about 16 miles southeast of Cape May, N.J., Saturday morning. USCG Cutter Tows Disabled Fishing Vessel
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa assisted the crew of a disabled fishing vessel about 70 miles east of Cape May, New Jersey, Friday. The fishing vessel Hope & Sydney lost steering and power. The Tampa crew arrived on scene Friday with the Hope & Sydney, established a tow Saturday and arrived Sunday near Cape May. A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May met the Tampa and relieved its crew of the tow before towing the Hope & Sydney into port. The cutter Tampa is a 270-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Man Medevaced from Vessel off NJ Coast
A Coast Guard boat crew medevaced a man off Cape May, Tuesday. Command center watchstanders from the 5th Coast Guard District received notification at 1:42 p.m. Monday that a 46-year-old crew member of the 600-foot French-flagged motor vessel Tamarin, had suffered a possible stroke. Due to inclement weather, the rescue was postponed until the morning. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May launched Tuesday at 10 a.m. and arrived on scene at 10:46 a.m. The man was transported to Cape May where EMS personnel were waiting. The man was then transported in stable condition to Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House by EMS personnel for further medical attention.
Coast Guard Tows Disabled Boat off Cape May
The U.S. Coast Guard towed a disabled catamaran with one person aboard Tuesday after the boat lost steering approximately six miles offshore from Cape May Inlet. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Cape May received a mayday call from the captain of the 44-foot Empire State reporting the boat lost steering, and the man needed assistance. A 45-foot Response Boat ─ Medium crew from the station responded, and once on scene, took Empire State into a 300-foot stern tow. While in tow, the boat’s operator and a station crewmember manually steered the boat through six- to eight-foot waves.
