MHI to Revamp its Casting Operations
Effective April 1, 2015 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will revamp its production structure for casting products. From that date all current Group casting operations will be consolidated at the company's Futami Plant, part of its Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works, and the existing casting plants at the Hiroshima Machinery Works and Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works (Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd.'s Nagasaki Works) will be closed down. In consolidating casting-related functions at one plant MHI looks to reduce in-house manufacturing costs and forge a robust production system capable of withstanding operational fluctuations.
Scana Industrier to Supply Steel for Ichthys Project
Scana Industrier ASA has through its subsidiary Scana Steel Stavanger, been awarded a new contract from Samsung Heavy Industry for delivery of steel casting intended for the Australian Ichthys project, representing a value of 36-million NOK. Including previously received orders from Samsung for the same project, the total value adds up to 93 MNOK. The project will commence activity immediately, and deliveries will complete by the end of 2013 and the contract includes approx. 60 casting components which are part of the mooring system for the Ichthys project. The Ichthys field off the NW coast of Australasia was named after the classical Greek word for “fish”.
WESMAR Thrusters ABS DP Approval
WESMAR announced that two more of their all stainless steel bow thrusters have been given ABS Certificate of Design Assessment for dynamic positioning (DP) applications. WESMAR Models V2-24 and V2-26 Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thrusters have joined the V2-20NS system, which received the design approval rating earlier this year. Wesmar Wins ABS DP1 Approval
Wesmar announced that their Model V2-20NS Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thruster has been given ABS approval for dynamic positioning applications (DP1). The horsepower rating for the V2-20NS is 75 to 150, and the company anticipates similar approval soon for their V2-26 and V2-36 systems, which operate on vessels up to 350 HP. Wesmar’s polished stainless steel props are standard, and stainless steel seal with bearing carriers sync with the stainless steel casting.
