New Monopile and Tower Fabrication Facility to Open in Maryland

Baltimore-based offshore wind energy development company US Wind, Inc. announced its plan to form a long-term partnership with Haizea Wind Group Management S.L. to manage and operate Sparrows Point Steel, Maryland’s first permanent offshore wind factory in Baltimore County, Maryland. Blue Atlantic Fabricators Wins Manufacturing Award

Maritime focused steel and aluminum fabrication specialist Blue Atlantic Fabricators said it has been awarded as 2019 Manufacturer of the Year by the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership.Formed in August 2014, the Manufacturing Caucus and Annual Manufacturing Awards includes more than 60 legislators from around the state of Massachusetts. Lawmakers focus on training for manufacturing employees; encouraging innovation by helping start-ups access resources; and expanding education and apprenticeship opportunities in key manufacturing centers.

Liebherr Crane Loads Massive Oil Platform

Mexican crane and heavy haulage contractor ESEASA used its Liebherr LR 13000 crawler crane for the first time to load oil platforms onto barges at the port city of Tampico.Tampico is on the Gulf of Mexico and is a major industrial center with its own port. A large number of industrial companies have made their homes on the banks of the Rio Pánuco, to enable them to ship their freight down the river to the sea.ESEASA also has a company site directly on the banks of the waterway. The company is currently manufacturing seven oil platforms there for state oil group PEMEX. These were hoisted onto barges in component form by the LR 13000 before being transported to the south of the Gulf of Mexico.The loads for hoisting were gigantic.

Blue Atlantic Fabricators Launches Lovejoy Wharf Ferry & Water Taxi Dock

Boston Harbor Cruises’ new subsidiary is building for Massachusetts in the Commonwealth.Blue Atlantic Fabricators of East Boston, MA announces the fabrication and launch of a 50 ton, 20ft x 80ft floating dock to be located at Lovejoy Wharf in Boston. This all-steel dock, will be the facility for privately-run ferry and water taxi service between Lovejoy Wharf and Boston’s Seaport District, offering both bow-loading and side loading capabilities.Blue Atlantic Fabricators built the floating dock for C. White Marine, Inc. who, as general marine contractor for developer Related Beal, will finish and install the docking system at the multiuse Lovejoy Wharf property.

New GE LM2500 Module for US Navy Frigates

GE’s Marine Solutions announced it has completed the acoustic attenuation and weight comparison testing between its new lightweight composite LM2500 gas turbine module and the steel enclosure. The results verified a 2,500-kilogram weight reduction and a significant improvement in noise attenuation—60 percent quieter—when compared to its steel predecessor. “The tests compared the noise and weight of the steel enclosure to the novel one piece composite design. Results verified that the new carbon fiber provides a significant reduction in the wall weight and noise, which is vital on weight- and size-constrained surface combatants,” said GE’s Brien Bolsinger, Vice President, General Manager, Evendale, Ohio.

First Carrousel Rave Tug Delivered to Novatug

Multratug 32, the first new CARROUSEL RAVE TUG (CRT) was delivered to its owner, Novatug B.V. of the Netherlands in February 2018. Multraship B.V. of the Netherlands will be the operator of the new CRT. Multraship and Novatug both belong to the Muller Maritime Group, that has been active in all types of towing operations for over 100 years. The design features the RAVE tug concept, jointly developed by Robert Allan Ltd. and Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG, featuring VSP drives arranged inline on the hull centerline, combined with Novatug’s patented Carrousel Towing System on the main deck. The CRT Carrousel towing system was developed by Novatug in cooperation with Multraship as the groups harbour towage operator. Novatug also cooperated with Machinefabriek Luyt B.V.

Twin Dredgers for Canadian Oil Sands

Damen Shipyards Group has completed a construction contract comprising two electric-powered Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSD) for the Canadian oil sands industry. With both vessels built in Canada, the contract marks the close cooperation between Damen and Aecon, Canada’s largest publicly traded infrastructure development and construction company. Two newly-built Damen CSDs have commenced operations in Northern Alberta, Canada. The two 40.64-meter-long vessels perform dredging duties in oil sands tailings ponds.

Damen Takes on Six Viking River Cruises Vessel Jobs

Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm) reports that it is currently working on a modification and maintenance contract for six inland cruise vessels owned by Viking River Cruises. With this winter service complete, all six vessels – known as longships – will be ready for the coming river cruise season. The Viking Idi was the first of the six to arrive at the yard in late December 2015. Sister ships Viking Idun, Viking Kvasir, Viking Kara, Viking Hlin and Viking Gullveig will follow consecutively.

Sembcorp Marine launched its new state-of-the-art steel structure fabrication workshop – the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia – which is set to boost the company’s steel fabrication capacity for its future needs. Indian order for Enclosed Ship Unloader

Cargotec has received an order for a Siwertell ship unloader type ST790-D from the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), Paradeep Unit. The enclosed screw-type unloader will be used to discharge rock phosphate and sulfur at a rated capacity of 1,800 t/h. "IFFCO wanted a totally enclosed system for both environmental and safety reasons," said Anders Paulsson, Sales manager, Bulk handling. "The company specified a screw-type unloader for high efficiency and chose a Siwertell system from Cargotec because we have by far the most knowledge and experience of this technology - the first Siwertell system designated for sulphur was delivered in 1980. Cargotec's Siwertell Sulphur Safety System (4S) was developed to minimise the risk of explosions and detect fires.

USS Anzio: Showcase for New Technology

The guided missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) continues to be a Fleet showcase for engineering improvements developed by the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). During the last 15 months, Anzio received four varied and innovative new technologies from NAVSEA. These include the S4 stainless steel head, magnetic couplings, gas barrier seals for fuel oil pumps, and cloth ventilation vent filters. Completing a successful tour as Anzio's commanding officer, Capt. Mark Nesselrode praised the new technologies. "Each of them has performed beyond my expectations," he said. The S4 head is part of NAVSEA's Maintenance Process Improvement program, which incorporates more than 20 different initiatives, all of which have the goal of reducing Sailor workload.

Graham Oil Services Expands Boat Fleet

A series of 126 by 30 by 12-foot boats are being built for delivery to Barry Graham Oil Services also of Bayou LaBatre. Alabama. The sister-ship was delivered two years ago with the others to be delivered at regular intervals over the coming year. The first of this set of boats launched on the high water Thursday evening January 23 and will be named the Capt. Levert in honour of Barry Graham's 87-year old maternal grandfather. Capt.
