Great Lakes June 2013 Symposium

Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association is to present a public program featuring a range of important issues concerning the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes Symposium is a first-of-its- kind public program focusing on timely legal issues impacting the Great Lakes. Stakeholders will discuss topics ranging from the regulation of phosphorous discharged into the Great Lakes to the development of wind turbines and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The Symposium’s panel discussion will feature noted speakers on Great Lakes topics, including Director Chris Korleski (EPA Great Lakes National Program Office), Retired Congressman Steven LaTourette, Jim Weakley (Lake Carriers’ Association), Brian Cook (Ohio EPA), and Joel Brammeier (Alliance for the Great Lakes).

Cummings: Administrative Law Functions Should be Separate from Coast Guard

Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Chairman of Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, convened the Subcommittee to examine the Coast Guard's administrative law system. "Today, the Subcommittee received testimony regarding the Coast Guard's administrative law system from two former Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) suggesting that during their tenure, they worked in an atmosphere that did not support their exercise of judicial independence in the consideration of cases. Bill to Reform Deepwater Acquisition Passes Committee

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure passed the Deepwater Integrated Program Reform Act, H.R. 2722, authored by Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. Key Pieces of Coast Guard Legislation Passed

U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, today (June 26, 2007) convened the Subcommittee to mark up the Integrated Deepwater Program Reform Act, H.R. 2722 and the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2007, H.R. 2830, which would reauthorize the Coast Guard.
