23 Kalmar Straddle Carriers for Transnet, South Africa

Kalmar has won a large order to supply 23 diesel-electric straddle carriers to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban Pier 2, a dedicated straddle carrier operation in South Africa currently handling a throughput of 2.6 million TEU. The contract also includes a delivery of a straddle carrier simulator, which will be used for training purposes at the site. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 third quarter order intake with deliveries scheduled to be completed in 2017. Thandi Sabelo, Acting General Manager for Procurement at TPT said "Kalmar fulfilled our requirements and was able to provide a solution that supports our efforts to develop the local capability and enhance sustainability within our workforce, through training capabilities and technological knowhow.

Kalmar's AutoStrad delivered to Patrick's Port Botany

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, played a successful role in delivering an automated straddle carrier solution to Patrick Stevedores' during their recent automation of Port Botany container terminal in Sydney, Australia. The conversion from manual operations at Port Botany was made in only four days, setting a benchmark for the whole container terminal industry. Patrick's Port Botany is now the world's second fully-automated AutoStrad(TM) terminal, operating with 45 Kalmar AutoStrads and real time control systems. It follows the automation success of Patrick's Fisherman Island terminal in Brisbane, which was converted to an automated straddle carrier operation in 2005.

Kalmar Supplies 19 Straddle Carriers to TPT, Durban

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained a breakthrough order to supply ten straddle carriers to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban Pier 2, a dedicated straddle carrier operation in South Africa currently handling a throughput of 2.4 million TEU. TPT is a division of the government-owned Transnet SOC Limited currently pursuing a R300 billion capital investment programme over seven years and now in its third year of execution. The order was booked into Cargotec's first quarter intake 2014 with deliveries scheduled to be completed by October 2014. Anton Burchell, Managing Director, Kalmar South Africa, said: "We are delighted to be selected as the preferred supplier on this important contract, in spite of considerable competition.

New Straddle Carriers for MSC Terminal in Antwerp

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order to supply five Kalmar electric straddle carriers for MSC Home Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium. In addition, Kalmar will supply one new generation hybrid straddle carrier to the customer on a rental basis. The agreement was signed in August 2013 and the new units will be delivered in February 2014. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order. The order has been booked into Cargotec's 2013 third quarter order intake. MSC Home Terminal is a 50/50 joint venture between PSA and TIL.

Cape Town Container Terminal Expansion

Transnet Port Terminal reports that its R5.6 billion, five-year investment plan aimed at increasing the capacity of the Cape Town Container Terminal is progressing according to schedule. Under its reconfiguration program on the long quay, the container stacking yard is being converted from a straddle carrier operation to a rubber tired gantry (RTG) operation. Over the past six months, 16 RTGs have been phased into the terminal and a further 16 RTGs are earmarked to arrive in the second half of this year.

Patrick Stevedores Goes All the Way

Based on the results achieved at the autostrad operation at Patrick’s Fisherman Island berth 7 in Brisbane, Australia, Patrick has now placed an order for 14 Kalmar ESC straddle carriers that will be equipped for unmanned operations. Tacoma Intermodal Yard Sets Record

The Port of Tacoma's North Intermodal Yard (NIM) handled a record 7,312 intermodal lifts (transfers of containers between ship and rail) from February 8-14.
