ARMS Reliability Wins Contract with MODEC

ARMS Reliability said it has reached an agreement with floating production solutions provider MODEC to assist with optimization and rapid strategy development of asset maintenance management philosophy for MODEC’s newest floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) project for the Bacalhau field, offshore Brazil. The Bacalhau FPSO, the largest ever ordered for Brazil, will be capable of producing up to 220,000 barrels of crude oil per day."The four-phase project will begin with the development of an asset management philosophy based on asset strategy management…

Tianjin Blasts a Blip as Marine Insurance Prices Keep Falling

Reinsurance rates in the marine sector continued to fall at the start of the year, in spite of the huge cost of explosions at China's Tianjin port last August, reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter said on Thursday. Rising competition to offer reinsurance and slower activity in China, were two factors depressing rates, it said. The blasts at Tianjin caused insured losses of up to $3.3 billion, Guy Carpenter has estimated, while reinsurer Swiss Re has called it the largest man-made insurance loss in Asia. The explosions killed more than 170 people. "Tianjin has had little or no impact on marine pricing," Chris Klein, head of EMEA strategy management at Guy Carpenter, told a news conference.

New Head of Marine Business at Voith Turbo

Dr. Christian Strahberger

Dr. Christian Strahberger (40) will take over the responsibility for the Business Division Marine of Voith Turbo. After studying physics in Regensburg, Colorado (USA) and Munich, Strahberger obtained a doctorate at the Walter Schottky Institute of TU Munich in 2001. Prior to joining Voith AG he worked for seven years at Siemens Management Consulting (Siemens AG) in Munich as a Consultant and Project Manager of international industrial projects of Siemens AG. His activities focused mainly on sales optimization and restructuring.

Cummings Congratulates RADM Stosz On Promotion

Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-7) offered his congratulations this week to United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral (lower half) Sandy Stosz, on the occasion of her promotion to that rank. Stosz, who is from Ellicott City, in the Seventh District, is the first female graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to be selected for promotion to flag rank. As the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, Congressman Cummings took particular pride in the promotion of RADM Stosz. “This is a wonderful time for Sandy Stosz and her family,” said Congressman Cummings. “Other women have excelled in service to our nation and have attained a flag officer rank.
