Design: RNLI’s Shannon Class Lifeboat

The latest lifeboat to join the fleet of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the main sea rescue service in the UK and Ireland, is the waterjet-propelled Shannon class, which the organization says is its most agile and maneuverable all-weather lifeboat yet to be deployed. Incat Crowther Opens Europe Office

Incat Crowther reported it has opened an office in Europe. Located in Southampton, United Kingdom, the office has been created to support a growing European client base and meet the demand for Incat Crowther’s products and services in the region, the company said. The Incat Crowther Group has reported significant growth as a result of a strong track record, robust and innovative vessel designs and consulting services, the company said. The office in Southampton is a reflection of this growth and is the third new office opened in recent years (following Lafayette, USA and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The European office will initially offer design and support forspecialized high speed aluminium ships including passenger vessels, and specialist vessels for the offshore and renewables markets.

James Fisher Wind Farm Support Vessel Named

JFMS Buys First Supacat Multi-Purpose Vessel 24

James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) and Supacat today announce the purchase of a Multi-purpose Vessel 24 (SMV 24). The investment in the SMV24 vessel marks JFMS’s continued commitment to provide innovative solutions to clients that require high assurance when operating in the marine environments. The SMV 24 vessel establishes a new benchmark in offshore support craft. With an overall length of 25.7 metres, it is powered by two MAN V12 diesel engines providing a maximum speed of 30 knots and fully loaded range of 675 nautical miles. Incat Set to Redefine WFSV's with Supacat Design

The new Supacat design was unveilled by Incat Crowther at the recent Seawork exhibition in Southampton, UK. The new vessel, designed to perform multiple Wind Farm and Offshore maintenance roles is currently under construction at Mustang Marine in Wales, due for completion in September 2013. Central to its design is its high-capacity, pillar-free cargo deck, which is flat from stem to stern. With cabin and hull accesses located outboard, the deck will be fitted with a set of container rails running the full length of the vessel.

Supacat’s Prototype L&R System

A new Launch and Recovery System (L&RS) developed by Supacat for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLI) new class of all-weather lifeboat (ALB) has undergone a two year trials program. These trials tested the system in demanding conditions and were held at Hayle, . The new L&RS design met all the requirements of the prototype specification and exceeded expectations during the trials; lifeboat crew feedback is now being used by the RNLI and Supacat to refine the pre-production design.
